In the springtime, there are always so many new kittens born that need homes. I took a look at some of the ones available for adoption at my local pet store this week....I wish I could take them all home with me.

One in particular, just looked right into my eyes....so hard to walk away, but I can't have another pet now.

My cousin (a cat lover w 2 of his own), told me last week (or so) that the Animal Rescue League in Berks County PA (where he lives), had over 400 cats/kittens! They were/are having $5 adoptions.

I went to their facebook page and scrolled down to read it myself because I couldn't believe they had that many cats/kittens!

People need to spay and neuter their animals! (Yes I know some are cats that are running around loose) but wow. This really made me sad.

I hope and pray they all found or will find homes soon!

We have 2 older cats (both rescued, and of course spayed), and 1 kitten we got when he was found by a friend (during that big snow storm here in PA end of January) as a kitten, abandoned by the mother (and his 2 siblings passed away), My friend couldn't keep him so we took him in and he is a pure joy! (He gets neutered end of July).

Anyway had we not had 3, we would have considered going to adopt where my cousin lives!

So, I cant stress enough how very important it is to spay and neuter! We also do not allow our cats to go outside (because we don't trust it, we don't want them getting hurt/killed).

Lastly-where we live you cannot feed feral cats. There's a law prohibiting this. You can trap them and take them to be spayed or neutered. But people do not listen and they multiply. (I know this is a controversial topic as to feed or not feed feral cats).

Yes, I have a house full of cats (doing my part), and support a rescue to assist in the spay/neuter programs. There are so many low cost options now, but are still people who need help with that. Spay/neuter is the key to the problem! I have such a negative view of breeders. I honestly don't understand purposely producing more kittens and puppies. Ugh.

I hear ya. I have 7 that are all rescues of some kind. We took in a mom and her tiny kittens a couple years ago because my DH coworker never got the cat spayed and the poor cat was required to live outside. The coworkers husband was going to take them all to the shelter, where they would have been put to sleep for sure. I got them spayed and neutered and we ended up keeping two of the kittens. How anyone thought it fine to leave an intact female cat living outside is beyond me. And they only fed her one 3oz can a day even while she was pregnant. She was so thin it was disgusting. These people should not own animals. She actually wanted us to give her one of the kittens back, which I refused.

My husband and I have rescued many cats over the years. We always get their shots, get them neutered, and work hard to find them homes. We have kept some, including a feral male three years go and a young feral female last summer. The once-feral male is totally tame now, and the female is happy and let's us pet her a bit now. We now gave 8 cats, not that we ever planned on giving so many, but we gave found homes for 20+ cats. It isn't easy. Working with the cats is a daily joy, but, yes, I wish there were not homeless cats out there to begin with. Who on earth would throw an animal outside? What kind of person ignores warnings to have pets neutered? There are free neutering clinics in many places if you ask around. If these people saw what we have seen--half- starved kittens and adult cats freezing in subzero tempos in winter, they might get a heart and take care of the animals. Please, if you see a homeless animal, do something. It isn't always convenient, but do nit turn your back. Please.

Thank you for the replies. Im happy to see there are others who adopt and help cats (and all animals).

Our local Humane Society often has free to good homes too (for the older cats). Then they get adopted quickly. But they were having $5 for kittens and cats at that ARL I am speaking of. So I hope they all found happy homes.

DH gives regularly to Humane and ARL. (My daughter just told me her and 2 of my granddaughters that are older i.e. 16 and 18 are going to volunteer this Summer to help with the cats at ARL. They will love it but I bet they end up adoptiing another pet or so and they have 3 dogs, 2 cats, and 2 hamsters now. lol.) I tease them and say they have a zoo. But they all love animals so Im glad theyre going to help there!
