What's Wrong With This Picture....You Tell Me?

I'm just wondering how we got to the point (not here, but everywhere) where a few people are allowed to control the majority of the people.

We see it everywhere. Some people do something wrong (I'm not going to sit here and break it down) you know all that I'm talking about.....

And just because someone is unhappy (about anything) they can (and do) post something that causes the post topic to be shut down.

I'm not disagreeing with QVC (I understand), what I'm saying is that it seems the minority rules. We are raising our children (well, not me, I'm done thank goodness) to do whatever it takes just so the minority isn't upset or whomever yells the loudest, they win. Kinda like, "Shussss(finger to lip like be quiet) and "What do you want? Just don't yell. You'll get it".

People will never be able to learn from each other by discussing pros and cons as long as the minority is allowed to rule.

It's pretty easy (as I just observed) (again, not judging, I understand, just using this as an example) if some want to end the subject they just put some mean, trashy comments and the entire thing is closed down.

Again, I'm not busting on QVC, their forum, I understand, but it would be nice if they just deleted the comments that are obviously put there to get it deleted. Maybe it's not possible, I don't know. I thought the discussion was going along OK, but I didn't read all of them.

Those bracelets really get around. I just saw the actress named Tara Reed's boyfriend over on another show wearing a black version of one of those bracelets. Good for him, I guess.

It was probably time for the discussion to end anyway. Too bad more people can't be like we are over on TV and Movies.....We often "AGREE TO DISAGREE"

And I can tell you, we TV people are very opinionated about our 'shows', so if we can do it, others can too.

That's so funny...lol I refer to it as the "Reader's Digest" mentality. I swear some people post stuff that came from a circa 1964 Reader's Digest..lol

@sabatini Well, you'd be able to find my house, but if you came inside, you'd have trouble finding me for all of the QVC junk in it....Ha!

I'm pretty good friends with @ECBG (facebook, etc). She knows what a slob I am......ummmm are you good at organizing??? Just asking??? No reason??? Are you near Virginia???

Thanks for the compliments, but this is something that is spreading everywhere in our society and it's really sad.

I have discussions with my granddaughters all of the time. One has very liberal ideas. She is good at supporting those ideas (I've been known to change my mind).

The good thing about young people (who are maybe under the age of 15) talk about their ideas without throwing verbal; unnecessary (how'd you like that for substituting the words curse and obscene)? Whoops! I 'said' it... where was I? Oh! I meant without yelling those words at another person when disagreeing.

By discussing opposition in a manner that shows respect, each person learns something. If the opposition isn't punished for throwing fits and issuing verbal obscentities, they learn that's how you get what you want.

My grandson threw one holy fit today when I was visiting my daughter. I used to say, "Honey! You are hurting grandma's ears" (he'd continue to yell). Everyone in the house went about their business and left the room. He didn't have an audience and quickly shut up!

Perhaps if these same people always giving in to the minority groups and the TV reporters didn't cover it they'd sit down and talk or behave.

I like disagreement, well, I like it when it's not disruptive and I can learn something.

There is a definite time to show one's disagreement (one of the smartest men in history, Martin Luther King) demonstrated that people will learn and listen from those who demonstrate dissent; but dissent using intelligence and non-violence.

LOL!, no, I'm nowhere near Virginia, nor am I super organized - that trait landed squarely w/ my sis. I do, however, like it when things look pretty, but am not above shoving things in drawers or closets to make it look that way.

But to your point, I do agree that it's close to impossible to have a healthy argument w/ some people.

And 'parenting' has gone out the window w/ some.

Hi Annablee...... I love your well thought out posts. As a person forced to live with many way different then myself (Army) I have learned that people have differing opinions. The sad thing is when people think their opinion is the only RIGHT one. Last 4 generations have had it too easy, I call it the Paradox of Plenty" Today everyone is right, a special snow flake, everyone wants "to be heard" many are constantly faux outraged, insulted and self obessed and are bringing up their children same. Goodness forbid strength through hard lessons and "Life" happens to us all. Is one thing to post an opinion (I dont like this or that) but is another thing to bash, include other posters in their shock-n-awe attacks, to be willing to post asking "what do you think" but also be unwilling to hear an opposing view, or the answer LOL. Is the cruel paradox of the internet and media where the division and anger is all too obvious..........if not entirely by design. I like hearing different opinions then my own and have often changed a view or two by intelligent discourse. (Key word intelligent not emotional) Women are womens worse enemy. OMG all the hype about empowerment is al bull if we have to critisize other womens hair, clothes, style, personality and the like. What happened to LIVE AND LET LIVE? I dont know and when I saw this start happening I couldnt turn in my boots and uniform fadt enough. There was a thread this week that hit me sad in my gut. The "I have mine and the heck with those sorry cads who need help" kind of thing when I am facing the loss of my home, everything and also facing death. Maybe would be a blessing as I dont have any fight left in me. In the paradox of a land of plenty we often forget the stuggles, lessons and sacrifices of the past. Sad hard lesson soon will be learned and I cringe that some wont be survivors. Annabelle you have given me alot to think about.........I have never started a thread as I know opinions are like back ends......everybody has one and I dont just write for write sake if I know it will inevitably end in discourse and argument. I have enuff problems right now and am battling severe depression.

I won't comment on this BB. My comments will be our culture and life in general. How many stories have you heard/read or seen like the following.

Say 500 people are having a function where all 500 are involved, but?? Up comes 1 person that is offended by something about the function, so! Can't have that, heaven forbid that 000.1% that it offends. Function is cancelled. Now if you cannot site many, many similar stories? Guess you might not be as interested as me.

I could could list so many true stories similar to this, I would be typing all night. That to me IS the title of your thread.

If you're talking about one thread about the TSV bracelet being shut down, it would have been helpful to at least give the title. There are still several threads on that subject that are still open so no wonder no one seems to know what you mean.

As to a thread being shut down due to controversy, it happens for many subjects; the TSV bracelet is not unusual. It's even happened in the TV and Movies forum.

Or maybe @hckynut has simply hit the nail square on the head. True, lots of folks take offense quickly. It does seem that in recent years, those folks have had more ability to get action taken (usually negative action). With any luck, this is just another phase humanity is going through. None of this is unique to QVC.

@hckynut I think I understand what you are saying. I think I agree with you and maybe we are saying the same thing?

It used to be the minority rules, but not anymore. However, I was also saying there are times (especially in history) where the minority is right. Minority in group of people I'm talking about.

Also, like I said, I think dissent done (or a verbal disagreement, also done) with respect for the opposite side can change other's perspective and belief (which I see as two different things).

What's this about? Since I started it. I was thinking about how the thread started out talking about the TSV and some people (obviously) wanted it shut down so they started (as they often do) posting things that would cause the thread to get shut down.

Just like in everything, people like that, (like John posted) one person ruins it for everyone. Sorry, John, I hope I didn't misrepresent you by saying that. If I did, tell me, as I'm not sure if it did or didn't.

In my opinion people disrupt because they are allowed to continue and never have to be punished for it. No one is responsible for anything anymore.

I don't wear religious symbols and it's been many years since a famous athlete made a personal decision.

My brothers and cousins were involved in the Viet Nam war and they wore/wear religious symbols. It's their business as well as Ali's.

@GingerPeach Your post made a lot of sense and I agree. Yes, I was thinking of that topic and believe me, I am fully aware of the posts even on the TV/Movie forum.

When I mentioned that specific forum, I was thinking of the same people who often post on there (as mentioned, there are always a few to stir things up).

I did drift into other specifics (which I often do and I apologize), but I couldn't resist to acknowledge that it is carried over on everything (which I think is what John was saying).

Also, though, as I said, perhaps it had run it's course, I don't know, not for me to decide, just trying to see the other side of the coin here. However, that wasn't the way to end it (by posting things that would shut it down, I mean).

The good thing about a place like this is there are people from all over the US and many different ages represented. I like that because it gives different perspectives.

I don't have a clue what the subject matter is you speak of in this post, but could you just explain which one rules? The "minority" or the majority? In what context?
