Aged Easter Peeps

Today is the day the Easter Peeps are ripe to eat, at least at my house. I confess not all made it to prime, I couldn't resist a few boxes of them in their less desirable condition.

So, do you age your peeps? Did they make it to prime etability? Is etability a word?

I've never been a big fan of anything marshmallow based. I did see instructions online for how you could microwave the peeps to make a smores type dessert. I could go for that.

I sit here grinning like the Cheshire cat right now. "Eatable" is a precious family private joke we use to describe "OK" food, said in memory of a very dearly loved one long gone. "It's eat-able" was one of his sayings.

So, absolutely -- although Spell Check doesn't recognize it as such, etability is a grand word!

The "aged" responses are priceless!

I have been grinning from ear to ear.

My burning question is.... do you put a small slit in each package to "enhance" the aging and to complete the cycle to that most satisfying crunch/chewy bit of goodness?

I LOVE peeps and ate about half of them before their prime....just couldn't resist.

I still have four aged boxes left.

My daughter does this! She's only recently consumed her Christmas and valentines peeps. She says that the Easter ones aren't "ripe" yet. I can't stand them myself, which is good since I'm diabetic. I pick them up cheap (cheep cheep) after each holiday and hold on to them without being tempted.

She firmly believes that the chicks are the only true peeps. No bunnies, snowmen, hearts, ghosts for her. A peep that isn't a chick is a disgrace in her opinion, lol.

I use an antique ice pick to puncture the cellophane.

Did you get any of the off flavors? I got a package of the sour ones, not good. I passed on the birthday cake flavor. The mystery variety tempted me, I love a mystery, but gave them a miss as well.

Ah, the color doesn't matter to me. As long as they taste the same. :-)

ETA: But now I have learned about "aging" them, so I may not get the full experience 'til Christmas. :-O

ETA2: Oh those are adorable, @missy1. I'll keep my eyes opened for them.
