IN FLANDERS FIELDS...

I was going to post this in your beautiful Memorial Day thread, but didn't know if it would cause a riot...I didn't think you would take offense, but I am pretty sure others would have taken offense for you! Thought you and others might like this...

In memory of Paul, Cinci, Leo, and all the others...forever in my heart.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

@MacDUFF, this reminded me of one of my favorite pieces when I railed against the VietNam War:

"In Flanders Fields" is one of my favorite poems

Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD - Canadiam Army was a Canadian poet, physician, author, artist, and soldier during WW I. He was a surgeon during the second battle of Ypres in Belgium. Lots of allies died in Ypres. He died of pneumonia near the end of the War otherwise known as the "Great War".

You would have to bring up Vietnam and ruin the thread. Just remember there are some children of officers who never came home who post here.

@GSPgirl, if you lost your father in the VietNam War, I offer my sincere condolences. I lost several friends from grade school, high school, and later, too. It was not my intention to "ruin" the thread. War is hell. Our world needs to learn to love, and that starts with each f us. Blessings in the highest.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young.

Thanks for great poppy flower (moving) picture! It reminds me of a poppy field that was around the block from my grandparents home in Gniezno, Poland. I remember running through the field and gathering poppy seeds from flowers and eating them. Boy were we happy kids:~D Little did we know...about poppy seeds at 11.
