Some like to include combat veterans who have served who have passed away, and this is all right with me, especially if they had severe injuries that contributed to their premature deaths.

I can hardly see where it hurts to thank anyone for their service, whether it's Memorial Day or just a sunny Tuesday in September.

My DH and I are both veterans. Feel free to tell either of us thanks for our service and sacrifice on Memorial Day, Veteran's Day, or any day.

I agree with this totally. Coming from a big military family, I do know the purpose of Memorial Day, and would like to add that it has been considered in our area, to be a day for remembering all our lost loved ones, as well as those who served. We decorate all graves in our family, not just those who served.

Any day (and every day) is a good day to thank a veteran for their service.

My husband is also a vet, (USAF) and is not offended by it.

My husband is a Marine (once a Marine always a Marine) and I asked him whether he would be offended if someone thanked him for his service. He would be honored to be recognized....

Why not?? You don't have to be deceased to be remembered and thanked for your service. Living veterans deserve the honor as well.

We are all Americans in this land together and we have so much more in common with each other than we have differences -- across all ages, backgrounds, families. I'm grateful for all who have served and are serving our country. It takes all of us working together, in and outside of military service, to make our country great.

Memorial Day is when I say thank you to all those vets who have died serving and protecting this Country. I also say thank you to all vets who continue to fight and protect this country. Many, past and present- have seen and have lived through unbelievable horrors. Again, I say THANK YOU to All vets- past and present!
