Go buy the pellets that boost your laundry detergent fragrance. Downey makes them. Also, I have found it you add baking soda or Arm and Hammer washing soda to your detergent helps with odor too.

Charcoal works well for dispelling odors. I'd probably get a container with some sort of rack in the bottom, put the charcoal below the rack and the jeans on top of the rack. Seal it up and leave it for however long it takes.

I probably wouldn't attack it with somethig that is strongly scented. That would probably make it even worse, and especially if you have any breathing challenges, or pets in your environment.

I agree regarding the Arm & Hammer. Supposedly 100 Mule Team Borox should work, but I've never found it that effective for odors....

Speaking of which, I found a gorgeous leather Fossil handbag a few hours ago on sale at Dillards. I didn't buy it because it smelled awful. It should have had a wonderful leather smell, but didn't. It was all leather, expensive ($248) Fossil handbag and the second one I've passed up because of odors (coming from being manufacturing in another country!).....

Can you return them? I wish I'd done that with an area rug I bought months ago. It stunk! I loved the pattern so I put it out in the garage thinking the smell would dissipate and I'd bring it inside soon. That was in November. It still stinks. I'm wondering if it has formaldehyde(sp) in it. And now I don't even want it in my house and I don't have the receipt anymore.

Lesson learned. I think stuff made outside of the US is suspect.... there are chemicals that are outlawed or restricted here (for good reason) that aren't in other countries. Then that stuff, with perhaps cancer causing chemicals, gets shipped to us. Ugh.

Hi Marebear54. I dont know if you go to the HSN forums but there is an interesting forum regarding the horrid chemical smell on DG2 items. One poster had a horrific allergic reaction. After reading of the chemical odor way more apparent in DG2 dark color jeans I will never buy another pair of this brand no matter how pretty or tempted I may be. Seems when they are shipped from China they are putting formaldahyde and other chemicals on them. I have bought many brands but never had such a horrid chemical smell as that one. I dont know if CS or DG has addressed this issue but they are well aware of the complaints. Might want to go read the forum if you have the time. Have a great day.......Stormy

I had to return an area carpet. Beautiful neutral, bound all around, around 6'x9', or a bit larger. Anyway, I kept it on my porch for a few days, then in my garage. Smell was strong, so I returned it on the last day of the return policy. Bought two others, different (I believe polyester), a bit smaller, and no odor. The first one stated that it was treated with anti stain whatever, so I'm guessing that it was over-sprayed (or something similar). Also, I've returned several pant/jean items that had definite odors that hadn't dissipated after a few weeks or so.

Years ago I purchased a pair of black jeans. It had a horrible smell also. I remember I tried everything to get the smell out, including using vinegar, and other detergents. Nothing worked. The smell would not go away. I think it has something to do with the black dye they used for the pants. You should return them when you can, because once that smell is in there you can't get it out.

When it comes to cotton fabrics or cotton blend I think of pesticide use because I have definitely had a reaction from trying on an item that smelled terrible and sometimes there's nothing that will get that odor out.

If we can smell it after a couple of weeks, it's still in the molecules. Everything we see, touch, smell, etc. are made of millions/billions/trillions/whatever of molecules. Well, at least that's what we learned in elementary school. I can still recall the teacher knocking on the desk, saying that the harder the surface/object, the more densly packed the molecules are compressed together. What we smell is still there, molecule-wise. I returned the pants I was talking about in my previous post, mainly because I didn't want to be driving in my car, smelling the strong (gasoline?) odor. It's one thing to be outdoors, but in a confined space, not too good.

For some reason imported items did not smell like this 30 years ago~! For whatever reason, these overseas manufacturing companies are spraying the carp out of their items befoare shipping them ... one of the worst items I've ever purchased was a Kathy Van Zeeland PVC handbag (made in China) from the Q. I opened the box and even though the item was wrapped in plastic, I was nearly knocked over by the stench and I wouldn't take it out of the plastic!!...... resealed the box and back it went!

I'm another one that employs my sniffer before I buy anything anymore....
