IRS Calls

Be careful all, the IRS scam calls r going strong. Don't fall for their threats! The IRS does not call. The calls come in from #'s all over the U.S. They troll ur home and cell phones. They especially go after the elderly so warn ur parents and grandparents and elderly neighbors or friends please.

I hear you! I go to a Senior Fit exercise class most mornings And this week, two of the ladies reported that they had received the IRS call. Fortunately, both were astute enough not to bite.

Yeah, real scumbags, aren't they? If I don't know who's calling, I just don't answer. Legitimate callers will leave a message. Love my Caller ID & nomorobo!

We got one recently! It isn't too hard to tell that it's a scam. The woman on the taped message wishes you "good luck with your lawsuit should you not respond to this message"!

We had a great laugh over it!

I wish something could be done to stop all of these scams. We sent a man to the moon, but the government can't deal with this problem.

It's funny but it's not funny. There are actually people out there that fall for these scams.

My dear departed mother was not "sophisticated". Part of the reason I brought her to live with me in her later years was because she was so sweet and trusting of everyone. If she got a phone call asking for her SSN, she'd ask them to hold on until she got the card so she could read them the number. She was a very dear sweet lady, and every she ever met loved her. I'm relieved that she never actually got taken advantage of.

The scams are pitiful. I can't believe the government can't do more.

It's wonderful that all of your elderly acquaintances are so mentally alert & capable of handling such scams. Unfortunately, there are many other people, not all necessarily elderly, who, for any number of reasons, are easily intimidated by such calls. Or perhaps illnesses affect their ability to think logically. My late dad suffered from brain tumors & while he was able to be home alone for a few hours at a time, he would sometimes agree to purchase items when phone solicitors called (this was back in the early 80s). My mom was then surprised when things came in the mail & she had to return them & try to get refunded.

Then it sounds like if someone told your dad that the IRS doesn't call people; he wouldn't have been able to comprehend that. Maybe it's just me, I don't assume that the whole wide world becomes dumb with age....

I have had a variety of these calls. Despite the fact I knew it was not really the IRS, and despite the fact I am an educated person, the calls still rattled me. I know someone whose immigrant mother fell for the scam. A waitress and single mother at a local coffee shot also fell for it.

Do not be so sure that your loved ones and friends will never be tricked by one of these scams.

All my landline calls go straight to voice mail and I only check them about once a week. Cuts way down on the

irritation factor. And I never listen to the full messages if they are scammers or telemarketers.

Also, seniors aren't the only ones who are vulnerable. The stupidest money mistake I ever made (via a phone scam) happened when I was much younger.

@chrystaltree I don't think anyone here is making that assumption. It's just that some people are more vulnerable than others. How about someone of any age who's just learning English? Or immigrants who come from places where anything they think has to do with government is scary & to be obeyed at all costs? And so forth...

BTW, my dad died in 1981 & we weren't so plagued with telephone scammers like we are now. It was mostly telephone sales people.

I got that call a few months ago. They left a message on my machine. I have a friend whose niece in college got that call. She sent them the money without telling her parents.

Yes, one scam after another. The Microsoft one is still going strong.
