Why Amazon?

Why is it when you look at an item on Amazon (and other on-line retailers) the price goes up right away if you do not purchase it? Amazon is famous for this. I looked at some drapes which were listed at $39.95 for a panel pair, the next day it went up to $51.00. It has happened many other times also - I looked at some glass frames which were $89, now they are over $100.

I've been an Amazon shopper since 2002 and I have never noticed that.

@hoosieroriginal If I'm interested in something I'll put it in my cart and then move it to "Save For Later." When you log in the next day if the price has changed it will automatically tell you. Sometimes the price will go up, but just as often it goes down.

I've had that happen, but it's hardly a thing as they go down as well. I've also had things drop after I buy them. LOL I hate that.

Chances are they were in the process of a price change and you were a day late, and several dollars short.

I ordered a couple lenox platters once for $17 a piece, they went up to $66 the same day.

I've seen this happen, too. Also, you have to check more than one vendor for your item because other things might be different as well. Same item might be Prime in one place and not another. Some prices involve getting on the automatic shipping list. Lots of variables with Amazon.

@NickNack this is exactly what I do when I am very interested in purchasing something. I got an unbelievable deal on a Breville oven this way. I just check in every day, it's worth the effort and patience.

Search the item you are looking for on Amazon. You will most likely find it listed at several different prices from different sellers. Some sellers IMO are ripping people off with their pricing & Amazon should give them the boot.

Many of Amazon's items' prices fluctuate regularly, sometimes daily. I always keep items I want but don't necessarily need right away in my cart and wait until it goes down in price and then buy. Some of my higher priced items, like lighting, has fluctuated by $500! I have gotten some shoes I wanted that I didn't want to pay $80 for $45 just by checking on them occasionally and watching the price flucuate, lol.

@hoosieroriginal I put everything I want in my wishlist. It will always tell you how much it went down in price and what that was when you entered it there. That doesn't apply of course if the price goes over the original price.

That's because Amazon uses algorithms and the cookies are stored on your computer so they know how often you visit, what you are searching for without even signing in. Try clearing your cookies out and the check the pricing again. They change prices a lot.

I have had the same experience both ways. It goes up/down.

I went to purchase flowers online from a online retailer. They were the Grower's Special for $19.99. I get to check-out and shipping was $14.99..I had everything done until they calculated that part. I was not paying almost the entire purchase price in S&H.

I clicked off. A couple hours later I received a email from them saying you didn't complete your order. Shipping is on us..$14.99 value if you click the link..and sure enough I got them sent for free. They shipped at like 3:10 pm and was delivered at 11 AM. Happened a few weeks later again. They sent me a free S&H link.

All places do that. I can be shopping online and the sites and items I have shopped for have shown up as ads on my Facebook or my home screen.

There is a website called camelcamelcameldot com that tracks pricing of items from Amazon over the space of months with a graph. Check them out to see how steady the price has been on the item you want.

The price fluctuations on Amazon drive me crazy. If I think it's too high when I initially look, I don't go back. I move on and buy it elsewhere. That seems to happen to me often on their site.

I buy from Amazon all the time, and have never had that happen. In fact, I keep a wish list there and have seen prices of items go DOWN since the time I put them on my wish list. Never up.

That's happened to me too. I think it's pretty common. They try to lure you back. I like it!
