Did you have View Masters as a kid?

And, was there a child's book, that you shared with your kids, or grandkids growing up? I wonder too, from today's teachers, what are some of the favorite stories kids of today like? I mean books, even though you can read them on line now.

We had View Masters as kids and now, that's one thing I wish we'd have kept.

Been checking on books I liked as a child. There's still Little Golden Books out there and I love the illustrations. I have found the names now of some of my favorites.

Care to add to this?

Kept mine. Just couldn't get rid of it. Not sure what to do with it because daughter want NOTHING, NOTHING. Seems I grew up feeling attached to what I had and as an adult want to pass it down. I guess I am dreaming because what I have kept has no meaning to anyone but me. Wondering how the downsizing will go. Probably have to hire someone to just dump the stuff so I do not feel the pain. That brings up another topic that I might post, called downsizing and the stuff... what to do with it.

OMG... you just brought back the BEST MEMORIES. That was one of my very favorite things as a child. Loved my view master. I had so many of the discs. What fun. Thanks.

Sure did - my 2 sibs and I shared this little wonder. We'd almost fight over who got to use it and view slides that came with it. Wish I still had this too. Along with MANY other things, this was yet another item my mom tossed in the trash.

I loved my view master and my dollhouse....as a child, I read Trixie Belden and Nancy Drew mysteries. I played Jacks, Candyland and Go To The Head of the Class and card games, Old Maid, Slap Jack and Casino....of course roller skates in the street and in the rink, my bicycle, hopscotch, War and Jump rope street games were favorite activities too...life was simple and I have good memories

Wish I had you around. I would give anything if my family members said what you did. They want NOTHING. i CANNOT EVEN GIVE MY STUFF AWAY. No one wants it. Might as well trash it.

Look on EBAy, don't throw it away!!! Other thought, Library, or a child care center. some place that children would love that gift.

Viewmaster and doll house...these were things I only got to play with when we visited my cousin. She has the board games and something I Loved called Chinese checkers which was played with marbles on a board. I read a lot at home in my room and I did get rollerskates which were used around the outside walkway of our house ( dad put in cement pavement).

Since we were not allowed outside the gate, I never learned to ride a bike...and still can't. Even though I have skied the Alps and Colorado, I have had a mental block to bikes. DH even put adult training wheels on a bike 20 years ago for me...to no avail. Now at 70+, I am still afraid of bikes for other reasons!

I ALWAYS wanted one, asked Santa any number of times. Asked for my birthday too to no avail.....

But, the neighbors had one and shared! We had so much fun with it!

My first book that really did it for me was A Big Golden Book called WONDERS OF NATURE that was beautifully illustrated by Eloise Wilkin. I still have it, it's falling apart but the pictures are still some of my favorites!

During my fall purge finally tossed out my View Master and my Brownie Camera. They were the only two things I had held onto from back in my youth.

Not View Masters but when my friend came to town to visit her adopted grandmother there was an old fashioned viewer we would put pictures in-can't remember the name.It was in the late forties then-probably was from the turn of the century. But we did play with paper dolls and had fun.

No Golden books but later enjoyed Nancy Drew etc.

I shared a viewmaster with my siblings. Who knows where that one went. We didn't have many reels.

I still have the one I bought my kids, with lots of reels. They got those reels wherever we visited. Stored in a small shoebox, not much room taken up. My daughter says she wants it.

I have a big green book with lots of stories and poems. I taught myself to read and print letters from that book. It has good stories and poems and it has stories you will not find anywhere, the content of the stories are not pc nowadays, kinda like the Disney movie with zippity-do-da song.

Yes, to that as a kid. I have several View Masters with the reels in one of the basement closets. I bought them for our kids and they used them; now saving for the eventual grandkids when they arrive someday. Also am saving those Brio wooden magnet train sets-- all inside a Rubbermaid storage box.

I've Golden books (written on a second grade level for the most part), How & Why Wonder books from when I was a kid, Classic books from Grosset & Dunlap-- a local department store (Gertz) used to sell and had a free book birthday club promotion-- I think I got these as birthday & Christmas gifts, Dr. Seuss and Clifford the Big Red Dog books, Spot the Dog Lift The Flap books, and Curious George books for our kids when they were growing up.

No Viewmaster, but I did have several books that I 'owned". Most of the things I read came from the library (free of course). My favorite book was The Little Engine that Could. I still have it. Most of my grands and great grands have their own copy, and many of them picked up the phrase that the little engine used, "I think I can, I think I can". But for one it became his four words to live by . . "I tink I tan". Used it every time he tried something new. Also had a nice copy of A Child's Garden of Verses, and still have that also.

I remember the Christmas Santa brought my sister and me ViewMasters. It was a special treat to get a new set of reels. My favorite was a set I had about Rome and the Vatican. I fantasized about visiting there someday. My first trip there was unforgettable. (and every visit since)

Loved my view master, wish I still had it. I also loved Nancy Drew, Candyland, Chutes & Ladders, and Old Maid. I do remember Chinese Checkers as well as Tiddly Winks. Being a kid in the 50's-60's was fun.
