Will you continue to purchase?

When a celebrity - no names please - comes to the Q or any other venue selling a line of clothing, jewelry or food that you have tried and liked but she or he behaves outrageously in public, either through witness accounts or social media, will you continue to buy their product? Or can you separate the behavior from their merchandise?

When I look for clothing on the Q I'm not searching for urban streetwear hip hop clothing. I'm looking for practical, presentable everyday "stuff". I think the Q does well within those constraints. But no matter how much I may like what a celebrity is selling the bad behavior has a powerful influence on my buying decision. Ultimately I will spend my money elsewhere.

@Say Nay It would really depend upon what the ceelbrity did or said. It would have to be on a case-by-case basis that I'd decide whether or not to boycott purchases. It depends how relevant the offense is to my life, values, standards, etc.

As an example, I will not see a Mel Gibson film since some anti-Semetic remraks he has made in the past (esp. towards a policeman during a drunk driving arrest) since I'm Jewish. However, if Mel had just been arrested for drunk driving it wouldn't have meant much to me (since he didn't hurt anyone in the process) so I'd still see his movies.

It just depends on the offense/behavior. And truthfully, if you really aren't trying to re-start a deleted thread about a specific vendor, I would think that my answer would be everyone's answer. It depends on a case-by-case basis.

If they have a good product that I feel will be an asset in our home? I really don't care what they do or what they believe in their social lives. Also am not one that believes in boycotts.

They had Joan Rivers on for decades. People make up their own mind. Lisa Rinna seems pretty harmless.

@Pearlee Thanks for the response. For me it isn't case by case. It's more of a matter of drawing a definitive line as to what I accept and what I won't.

No, I will not support them. There is enough variety that I could find a equal.

I also will not buy from a Q host that I can't tolerate.

ITA with Pearley in that it would depend on what sort of thing they did/said.

For me, if it's something in the area of bigotry or animal abuse, I'm definitely out. If they have some really rabid beliefs in some areas, not based in reality, as in politics or another thing I won't mention, that might affect my desire to do business with them.

But never just some basic 'I disagree with your POV' type thing. It would have to be something that I would consider fully egregious. I'm fine with not agreeing with somebody on everything. That's what life is and I get along with lots of people who have pretty different beliefs than I in different areas. It's anything that falls under extreme where they lose me.

Rarely, if ever, have I purchased an item from a celebrity fashion line. I suspect they just slap their name on something with little to no actual input; and jack up the price. I realize not all are like this (Joan R. seemed pretty involved), but it is my rule of thumb.

No, I would not support them. I've been this way with celebrities and how they behave in their real lives influences if I want to see them on the screen (or buy their stuff). You can call me anything you want but if I feel dislike/disgust for someone then they can be the most talented person on earth (funny, I've never found that to be necessarily true though)..... and I won't go see their movie.

I personally can't stand Jennifer Lopez and will not buy anything she sells (which can be difficult because she hawks everything everywhere...)

I saw Jane Fonda in person at my College in the early 70's rant in a speech and will not watch her in anything. I have no respect for her so I won't be sharing my money with her.

Same with the person you are referring to in your OP. I didn't think much of her to begin with and never bought her clothing but now it's a given I won't ....

Hard stance? I don't care. My money, my vote.

Joan Rivers was a comedienne and Lisa Rinna isn't. Funny how delivery is everything and maybe if Lisa had made her comments while smiling and chuckling it would have been received similarly.

I think the difference with JR and LR is that even tho Joan could be harsh and say some very mean things, it was said to make the audience laugh (at the expense of others), with humor as the intent (roasts do the same thing) whether or not you found it humorous.

LR's intent was to hurt and denigrate with no redeeming qualities attached to it.

After reading up, (but not certifying if what I read about a celebrity's posts on Instagram),

I think way less of the person.

No, I don't believe that I would buy any of this brand.

JRivers had a way about her that led me to believe she had heart. Her remarks had never been posted on IG.

The remarks and words I read were so nasty... I hope the celebrity has them removed and/or sues. This would kill a persons career. The social media -- what damage it can do.

Interesting. Would this mean if you "need" it then you buy it, no matter who sells it or represents it?

Just being a part of most reality shows is enough for me not to want to deal personally with someone, but I limit my personal boycotts of buying to those who cross major moral lines as I see them.

For the vast majority of what I've bought in my life, I really had no idea about any personality behind those items --and even here where I buy, I pretty much buy products, not people. For example (and there's nothing outrageous at all involved), I'm not really a fan of Chaz' look, but I am a fan of his products - and haven't wavered a whole lot since I started with them in 2009.

I boycott because of bad behavior (in my eyes anyway). Mel Gibson is an example. And honestly I really think they put up these celebrities and make them seem as if they are really designing this stuff to get the sales and attention. I really doubt they do anything but put their name on a product and do nothing and know nothing about the design. Of course what do I know, I am only the customer.

If the public figure who is hawking something says something that is out of bounds to my very flexible sensibilities, I will not support them with my money. When they have proven to me that they have no respect for me, I lose all respect for them. It might be clothes, or movies, or music, or a grocery item, I refuse to support thoughtlessness and mean.
