Did anyone go to record store day Saturday?

I am curious if anyone here went to record store day Saturday? DH and I went and it was packed! In fact people waited all night for the doors to open (not us, we went in the morning).

Vinyl records have made a huge comeback in recent years and we have a few record stores not far from us that we go to all the time.

We have replaced lots and lots of vinyl albums the past years, that we didn't have anymore from back in the day (we had some yet). And we buy new ones also.

Saturday there were lots of new releases of old bands and new bands of various genres of music, and some are limited editions just for record store day (which is what we mainly went for today).

Anyway it was really fun. They had prizes and bands playing. There were people of all ages buying records, and all kinds of things like record players, t shirts, posters, even instruments etc etc. (We did spend a little too much, but oh well..lol).

We go every year now and we love it. In our opinions there is nothing like listening to vinyl records on our stereo system, and having the album covers etc.

How much $$$ do you want to spend? Do you want separate speakers or an all in one? Do you want to be able to plug other components into it like a Turntable/CD Player?

Gotta be more specific. I've got 3 systems and they are all different. If you just want to listen to music is 1 thing. If you want to "feel like your are there in person listening" ? Just letting you know there are so many options.

We still have several heavy boxes of our old vinyl albums. Every one of our records brings back such memories. Some we have I know are probably worth $$ now but I don't think I'll ever get rid of them.

My only turntable these days was purchased a few years ago to turn my vinyl into CDs.

I would need to add speakers to listen to my old records again.

I pruned dozens and dozens of albums a few years ago, donating them to my library's perpetual sale section. They were in rough shape anyway, but some people collect the covers (these were tattered as I moved around a lot when younger).

None of my remaining records are mint, but how could I divest of my parent's beloved "Cha Cha" dance records? Or my oldies? They wouldn't be salable anyway, as I seldom replaced needles when they were worn out and for a long time put a penny on the phonograph's jumpy tone-arm, which stressed out my albums. I still will keep that (scratchy but beloved) fraction of my formerly huge collection.

Does anyone else remember when the brand new Beatles albums were $3.21, new in the store?

I do like the sound of vinyl over the sound of tapes and CDs. More depth or something.

I have only one real album left- Buckingham Nicks. It's my favorite and I'll never get rid of it. It was never released on cassette or cd.

Thanks so much for responding to my request. Since I have a substantial collection of recordings, including those made by my father, I would love to be able to play them. I also have 2 grandchildren and records they would enjoy. So there are two levels here - perhaps a decent box the kids can play with, and then a good stereo system. I am not electronically savvy, so I don't know how to transfer media and am not up to date on new technology nor am familiar with comparisons of sound. I am extremely particular about sound quality. And if this is relevant, we are planning to get a smart tv soon.

I am so glad to have started up the conversation because I have a lot to learn and you seem to have a lot of knowledge! Thank you again!

You are welcome. There are a lot out there when it comes to audio. If you want an all-in-one for your grandkids, there are a lot of them with built in speakers, will play vinyl records of all sizes/play CD's. Many will record what you are playing onto a CD or a USB Thumb Drive.

As I said, there are many price ranges, it depends on quality and features. Probably see an all in one units at places like Radio Shack or many stores that sell audio equipment. If you need help, ask me specific questions, or you can go over to the Electronics Forum. There are many there that are very savvy when it comes to anything audio and/or video.

We had a record shop that featured 3 new albums a week for $1.99. Most of my Beatle albums were purchased for that price.

right now I am in the midst of Passover cleaning madness, but would then invite all help, perhaps in selecting a stereo system for the duration! I'll try to formulate actual questions at that time, and thanks again!

@nunya- there was talk a few years ago about them re-releasing it, but they never did. That album is in my top 3. Several years ago, my cousin also made a cd of it for me. Sooooo good.

Thank you for the replies and I'm glad some others appreciate records too.

And yes Gidget thanks, I loved it. If I could stand all day, Id spend the whole day in one of the record stores browsing! lol. (PS I don't think we have that record you mentioned. Now I have to ask my husband about it then).

As far as system suggestions I guess it varies on what brands one likes best? We have an entire stereo system in our home that includes a total of a radio, cassette player, 8 track player, 5- cd player, and speakers. (All different components hooked together old school). I looked and they are all Technics brand except 1, that is Panasonic. I don't know what the speakers are (they're up top near the ceiling so I cant see to check and I forgot what brand they are)

PS We don't use the 8 track and cassette parts anymore, but they work if we would want to. We just use the radio, cd component and turntable.
