When You Dislike Someone, Do You Let Them Know?

Do you want them to know? I seldom let them know, well I try not to but sometimes I'm sure they suspect.

So, this subject had me wondering if there is anyone I hate. I realized that there is no one, not one person past or present that I hate.

If one has a fight, obviously, one is letting someone know you don't like them. That is rare for me now, although when I was younger I was more likely to get into an unpleasant argument. It's rare for me now, but if someone pushes me too far I can get ugly. I say to myself "It's Leona Helmsley time" and let them have it. Maybe that makes me a bad person, but so be it.

There are definitely people I don't like, including some relatives.

Not directly, no, I just avoid sharing my precious time with them. Not very many people fit into that category in my life, fortunately.

There is a big difference between disliking someone and hating someone...... Even if you really dislike someone, believe they would have had to do something that would make someone hate them. I don't hate anyone.......May dislike some folks, but do not hate them. And if I do dislike someone, I try to stay out of their company. That is how I am..... Don't care for uncomfortable situations and steer clear of them......

I really do not like the word hate......

If I dislike someone, I don't let them know. If I have to interact with them like at work, I am pleasant.

Most of the time I see no need to let someone know I don't care for them. I see, as I get older, fewer reasons to make extra drama in my life. Unless they are going to really be invading my space, I just play nice (not phony, just polite and kind), and let it go (the song does have a good point!). Avoid being around them, or interacting more than is necessary.

That said, if someone is forcing an interaction/relationship, and doesn't get the hints, I do feel forced to find a way to let them know I'm just not interested in relating to them. Best to try and be as kind as possible, especially when they aren't being mean, but I just don't care for them.

There are people that I may not like a whole bunch, but hate is a very strong word. Hate and even dislike takes too much power and energy from the self and giving ones power away to others in the negative energy form of dislike, hatred, drama and confrontation all of which are too time consuming, draining and unpleasant. Of course there are those who love drama, thrive on confrontation and dislike feeds their lack of self love. Life is way to short and the key to balance is turning that question around and instead of pointing the finger to someone else one points the finger inward and asks the question "Am I likeable"?? Can tell I read the Dali Lama and other self help books LOL.

Oops and I pressed post before I could say "No" I do not tell them. If I had done that I would have robbed myself of 2 of my now best friends who at first I didn't care for very much. First impressions were wrong in those cases and the negative vibes and communication gave me the gift of 2 wonderful friendships that started out rocky. LOL I would have only hurt myself if I had said anything of the such thus I remain open to change of heart. Each person is worthy in their own right.

Be careful of self help or you will end up in a commune, worse yet, a sweat tent. Keep in mind those who write them are doing so for profit.

Most everyone in the world does not get up in the morning with the sole intent of making my day difficult. They are too wrapped up in their own dramas. So the thing to do is be calm and kind. They are not trying to make me dislike them.

In order for me to dislike someone, something had to occur. If something were to occur, I would discuss how I feel about whatever it was with the person. I don't believe in shaming anyone and always leave an opening for a apology. I would only have the discussion be just the two of us. If it couldn' t resolve- then I guess they would know I don't care for the type of person they are.

What would be the point of that?

Coming out and telling people you don't like them is sort of like saying, "Hey, I'm a big jerk!" It just seems hurtful and unnecessary.

I have a few exceptions to that rule, but generally speaking, I think it's counterproductive.

I don't have much choice--I am not good at concealing my feelings. I don't really dislike people, and wish no one ill; but when folks say things I find distasteful, it definitely shows on my face even when I think I have covered it up.

My family tease me about it.

One seldom needs to SAY "I don't like you." People know, IMO.

I can count on one hand the people in real life I (have) disliked intensely, detested, wanted nothing to do with, etc. perhaps at one time immediately after an event/"the" event I might have said I hated a couple of them, but time mellows and distance gives perspective. They behaved badly, sometimes in a cowardly, underhanded way, or abused authority, or had mental issues. I think maybe I could only "hate" someone who grievously hurt or killed a loved one or a defenseless animal or child.

I don't surround myself with people I dislike. If I run into someone I don't psrticularly like, I don't really let them know. But I go to great lengths to avoid them again.

If there are people I dislike on TV, I swear at them...LOL!
