TV Commercials

Ok, it's my turn to vent. Haven't done it in a long time.

They are really getting to be undesirable here lately. The car commercials where they zoom, the phone commercials, etc., and so many more. Why do they have to be so darned loud. I am constantly putting my TV on mute.....

Also so tired of the NutriSystem commercials. They are getting old pretty fast.

Ok, there's a lot more I could say, but better quit while I'm ahead.

It felt good to vent.

In my case I am tired of having to watch any commercial because they seem to take up more and more time from the programming. I record most of my programs and I zip through the commericials and it is taking much longer to get rid of them. An hour program has over 15 minutes of commercials. So much fun!

This is what we do too for 99% of what we watch. I can't stand commercials and most are about medications and all their side effects. It starts to give one a complex even if you don't use that medication, lol!!

Since that law, a few years ago (whenever that was), the commercials on our tv aren't louder than the rest of programming.. I'm very grateful for that.

But also, I have Tivos so I record most things and FF through commercial segments. I highly recommend it!

If you don't want to put out the big bucks to buy a Tivo, or more than one, plus the service and all that, you can get the cable/satellite boxes now that have a generic type of DVR built right in. Then you can record things and it's way easier and a more pleasant way to view tv shows/movies. I would never want to be without my Tivos again!

Well between my phone, internet, and TV, my provider bill is high enough. Can't afford all those extras. And as far as a Tivo goes, I would need someone to connect it up because I can't get to the back of the TV, and usually the print on those instructions is very small, and with my vision problem I am having I would have a difficult time even trying to read it.

Yes, I am well aware that the commercials are not supposed to be louder than regular programming, but it is in my cases...... Like right now. I am watching The Good Wife......and their commercials are louder than the program.......

ITA. With several hundred cable channels it seems like more commercials than TV programming. I don't watch TV very much anymore. And, when it is on I usually have the mute button on.

Sorry, but it is time that I need to get ready for bed now. Am undergoing chemo treatments and they really make me very tired very easily. Therefore I try to make it to bed at a decent time so that I get enough rest.

I've written plenty of emails to companies with advertising I find offensive. Easy to do; they all have websites with "contact us" information.

Commercials that are too loud are the responsibility of your TV provider. You'll just have to grin and bear it when they are repetitive.

Try doing what I do. Every TV show I watch is recorded via DVR. Some of Dish Network Bypass commercials automatically. Ones that don't have auto skip, push the remote for each 30 seconds you want to skip.

Plus, hour show can be watched in as little as 40 minutes. If ya got one? Use it! If not? Get one. If not? Use must like being annoyed so you can vent.

I only watch the Game Show Network early morning and Hallmark till about noon. So commercials aren't disgusting as my grandkids are sometimes here.

One commercial that drives us crazy is a Yoplait commercial where a guy is on a ladder and the girl is on the ground and she keeps saying "Not yet", " Not yet." (about four times) and all of a suddens screams "Pull the peach!!"

I hate commercials. They have taken over progrmming, and most are so stupid. Makes me mad. I record on my DVR from DISH. If I don't record the show, I try to pause it fro at least 15 20 minutes, and do something else. Then I come back and flick through commercials. There are close to 12 commercials each time!

Same over here, John. I watch almost NOTHING in real time .... what a waste! Why do people do this?

I also have Dish and notice that jumping forward and jumping backwards are not equal. I suspected that going backwards does it in 15 second increments, and going forward jumps in 20 second increments. That's only my guess. You think jumping forward is 30 seconds?

I watch very little TV, but when I do it's PBS. It's wonderful - intelligent programming with no commercial interruptions.

I think forwards is 30 seconds and reverse is 10. Hear most commercials are made in 15-30-60 second or longer so maybe that is factored into the skips.

That Kangaroo auto-skip is great. Don't even have to touch the remote. DVR really shortens up the time it takes to watch any show, and takes away at least 1 annoying thing in many people's lives.

Hi chickenbutt,

About "that law:" it has not affected commercials broadcast where I live in the Pacific Northwest. In fact, they're getting louder.

I mute every single one of those puppies, grab my Kindle, read news or dive into the current book I'm reading, until the program returns.

The commercials here seem to be getting louder. I thought maybe the loudness rule must have expired.
