Dollar Store

My husband does most of the shopping. And he always picks up some things at the dollar store. He doesn't buy any food there. I'm skeptical about that. But he gets paper towels and aluminium foil from there. I go through the paper towels so fast and the foil is so thin you can see right through it. So now today I am easing him into getting the Reynolds Wrap and down the road we will start with the paper towels. I like the Bounty paper towels. I use one sheet compared to 10 sheets of the other brand. Thanks for listening.

I'm sure he thinks he's saving money. He'd save more though if less was used. I'd give him an A for effort.

I know some men like this. I go into the Dollar Store about every third year. Last year, a male friend brought me some hand soap and lotion whose brand was my name, said when he saw it he couldn't resist buying it for me. I asked him wherever did he find items with my unusual name, and he proudly declared the Dollar Store. Lol!

I agree about the foil and paper towels from the dollar store! But some things are great bargains. I buy the following there regularly: toilet bowl cleaner, shower spray, rubber gloves, parchment paper, envelopes, double stick tape.

Hope you can convince your hubby to get the brands you want!

Occasionally I go to the 99cent store and I also stay away from the food, toothpaste and mouthwash. I mainly buy greeting cards and batteries. I bought "Great Value Aluminum Foil, 300 ft" from Walmart around a year ago - low price and very good quality. I buy paper towels and most everything else at Costco. At the Dollar-type stores, the price is low - but so is the quality.

Once in a while our Dollar Tree will have Reynolds foil and I'll pick that up.

The only things I buy there are greeting cards, gift bags, gift tissue paper and aluminum throw away pans.

The kitchen trash bags aren't bad, I keep a back up box under the sink.

The gift wrap from there is so thin that the corners of the box pokes through by the time you are finished and you have torn corners.

I won't buy food, beauty products (not even if they are a national name brand) or cleaning products there. I feel the cleaning products don't work and you might as well just throw the dollar in the street.

I won't buy anything edible but do buy craft supplies for kids and gift bags.

I have bought food there. They can't sell food that is bad. I check for the dates. I don't buy items (food/hygiene products) from other countries for the most part, and this applies to all stores. I actually bought a bag of potatos from the 99 cent store the other day, and I lived.

I do believe that some/maybe many men enjoy wandering up and down dollar store aisles. It's 'easy' for them, not having to worry about a variety of prices, etc. (Said in a nice way.) I occasionally like to drop into dollar stores, just moseying around, buying 'this and that'. It's a way to spend time, and not too much money, more or less.

I find it amusing that people will turn their noses up at the food sold in dollar stores (even brand names) but will then stampede into Aldi or Trader Joe's to buy private label generic food.

I buy several items at the Dollar Store regularly. The quality is fine. But, I think you are right, not everything is good. You do have to trial and error it.

I don't buy food because I tried a few things and was not happy with the quality. if others have found success with food products, great.

The store near me only has 1 small aisle for food.

I do buy gloves for cleaning, disposable coffee cups and throw away pans there.

If you use coupons for Reynolds foil and paper towels at the regular store, it's a better deal.

If you're a member of Costco, they offer a tremendous savings on those kinds of items, I particularly love their plastic wrap which comes with a piece that will cut it off for you.

Not sure what you mean in this instance, but Trader Joe's food isn't really generic. Most of it is food you can't find elsewhere.

And as far as I know, TJoe's food is not made in China, which, reportedly, some food from dollar stores is.

We have a Dollar General near me that I love. I like to buy party supplies, gift bags, cards, cleaning products, Coca Cola, etc. They even sell their own brand of medications, like Imodium and Benadryl. It doesn't say where it is made, just that it is distributed by them in the US. I'm thinking that stuff is made in China so it's a no go. Scared of it.

99 cent store in my area, has more food than the Dollar Tree store. 99 cent store has many brand names, bull smaller sizes than at the stores.

Exactly and I guess no one remembers the brand name bootleg toothpaste that was being imported from China and sold by one of the dollar chains.

A new Dollar General store just opened within 6 miles of my house. I send so many cards every month, and love their selection. I also buy detergent, peroxide (pour it on my toothbrush every day to kill germs), band aids, night light bulbs, and quite a few food items, such as bread, Kentucky Legend ham, green peppers, cool whip, pepperoncini, as well as the cheap cinnamon and vanilla I use in my stovetop simmer pot to add moisture and scent to my home.
