Another yuck topic

Trader Joes in the bakery section cookies ...took a bite or two and then dropped it on my plate.Cookie landed bottom up to reveal hair and an assortment of lint baked in.I returned them to store and they said they were aware and thought they had pulled all of that batch...apparently I was unlucky and I think I will never desire another so it will be at least good for my diet.

@dex That's gross! My daughter loves that store. Me, not at all. I go in there and buy her gift certificates.

I'm glad they have the store though I think everyone should shop where they want to. I'll stick to plain ordinary Harris Teeter.

I remember when I was in high school I was on my deathbed for a week with the Asian Flu. The first day I was able to be out of bed, I was hungering for a Coke, so my mom brought me a bottle. I drank almost the whole bottle when I saw something in it. I almost upchucked again and gave the bottle to my mom. She told me the cork from the cap had separated. Weeks later when I was completely recovered, she told me it was a cigarette that hadn't been washed out at the factory before re-bottling. Ugh. Weird s*** can show up anywhere, anytime. Thank goodness we have immune systems!

Oh my gosh, haha, gross things do turn up in our food, don't they?

I once bought a loaf of bread with a band-aid baked into it. From what we could tell, it appeared to be a "used" band-aid. Ugh.

I am beginning to think that it is best to make your own baked goods and buy as little pre made food as possible.My husband said that he was reading that some disgruntled employee was seem on utube peeing on cornflakes.

I would complain to the local store, but not make an assumption that all stores are guilty by association.

I heard this cornflake story yesterday on the news. Kellogg's said not to worry, it was two years ago and all the boxes were beyond expiration date. Lol! That is supposed to make us feel better???

@dex Does your TJ's have a bakery? I'm pretty sure TJ's by me do not. Their baked goods are all made elsewhere.

I have returned many things to Trader Joe's-mostly things that I didn't notice that had expired dates. They cheerfully refunded my money and never once apologized for my inconvenience. Never.

It is sad; on the other hand, I think the same thing could happen anywhere we go. The good aspect of that story is that OP could actually see the problem when sometimes are are scary things in our food which we can neither see nor taste until it's too late to avoid them.

That IS gross! That means the person baking the cookies, dropped the fresh batter on the floor, picked it up, placed it on the pan and baked the batch!!!

Unacceptable and I hope the person got fired.

@ValuSkr This is from a bakery outside of the store.you are correct that they don't bake in store.I am just wondering about the cleanliness and standards for some of these smaller businesses.I am assuming the dough hit the flour at some point and was made into cookies instead of being discarded.I took the cookies back to the store and they were aware of the problem and thought they had pulled all of the bad batch.From the assortment of hair colors in the cookies they have brunettes and redheads working there and lots of lint from something....just so bad because I ate one earlier and thought there was hair and figured it was one of my own...yuk

I just took a professional food handlers test. In it was a whole section on how to watch for employees who might sabatage your food supoply and hurt customers. Somethings you can't guard against without everyone being watched all the time.

I read an article recently that said your having a Trader Joes within either 2 or 5 miles (can't remember which) actually boosts home prices in that area.

No one says you have to shop there, lol.
