I think it depends on what he has actually done. I'm not sure that just joining Isis is even a crime. The crime is in what comes after they join. Personally, I'm okay with revoking their citizenship and washing my hands of them. To be honest, I'm more concerned about drug cartels and drug dealers and soaring addiction rates.

Since he has joined with a group that espouses death to America and Americans, it is clear that he has branded himself as a traitor to his country. That being said, he should lose his citizenship, along with all it's privileges and rights. He should not be allowed to return to this country for any reason. If he is still in this country, he should be permanently imprisoned as he presents a clear and present danger to our citizens.

The thing is, how do we know he's telling us the truth? He's telling us how they lied to him and made it sound like a great place, which turned out to be nothing but praying and eating lousy food........just what Americans will easily soak up, right? He could be a replanted subversive ISIS loyal IMO. If he wants to stay here, it should be in prison.

Really? You want to imprison someone for speech? That sounds pretty Isis-like to me...lol It's certainly Un-American. Maybe you should put yourself in prison....lol

He knew darn well what life with Isis would be like before he left, and he still chose to go. Now he misses the good life in America and is claiming that he "doesn't agree with their idealogy", LOL. He KNEW their idealogy beforehand, as does nearly everyone on this planet.

I wouldn't trust him. He knew he would probably be on a mission to do Americans harm, so I don't see why he needs our sympathy now.

My personal thought when I saw his story on the news, was, no way. He gave up that right and I can see him coming back under false pretenses. If his saying is that he was swayed because of a "girl" then, I definitely don't want him here. Too easily swayed.

There is also the issue of setting an example. If he gets off with no punishment, who knows how many others will decide to" give Isis a try" then feel free to change their minds and come home.

I'm not sure this administration has the chops to be really tough on this guy, and he knows it. I'd be surprised if his citizenship were revoked, but IMO, it should be automatic in cases like these.

Well, obviously a lot of you have never heard of the rule of law....lol Or the US Constitution for that matter. I'm not saying that now laws were broken, I don't know. I am saying that here in the US of A, that I call home, we don't arrest people based on our "feelings".

In Mosul, he was indoctrinated in Shariah: ”Our daily life was basically prayer, eating, and learning about the religion for about 8 hours. … It was pretty hard to live in Mosul. It’s not like the Western countries. … There’s no smoking.”

And apparently all that brought Khweis to a pivot point; he noted that he “didn’t complete the whole Shariah [Islamic Law]. I didn’t agree with their ideology. That’s when I wanted to escape.”

“I don’t see them as good Muslims,” he added. “I wanted to go back to America.”

Khweis told the Kurdish station that after about a month he “found someone who could take me back to Turkey. First he said he could help me, but then he said it will be difficult to take me all the way to Turkey. He told me he will take me close to Turkey’s border.
