Have You Ever Called Back A Wrong Number

I have actually done this twice that I can recall. Today a woman called (she sounded elderly) and left a message with her number She was thanking someone for something and wanted her to return her call. I called her to tell her she dialed the wrong number and I wasn't the party she was looking for. She apoligized and thanked me. Another time a doctor's office left me a message confirming an appointment, I called them back too. I always try to do what I would want someone to do for me

Yes. There are 3 guys in town with the same name as DH. Good thing they have different middle names. One of them does not pay his bills so you know what kind of calls we have received on him. It's annoying to say the least since we have excellent credit. I only answer the phone to numbers I know. The other one is a kids softball coach so I always call those back.

Yes. There have been a few times when the message had important content, so it seemed only right to let the caller know they dialed the wrong number.

Yes. As with Jordan and Mrs G, I felt badly that the message might never get to the right person since they left a message on my voicemail.

So I called the caller to let them know. I think people appreciate this. But, more importantly, at least they can find that they either dialed wrong or had the wrong number.

Yea - ten days ago. Elderly gent left message that we was ready to pick up his car if it was ready. I called him back figuring he'd be sitting there through another birthday - waiting for call back about his car. He and I were shocked to learn he was in California and I in New York. He read me the tele number he was given - and it was mine - even with my area code. He sounded like a nice older man.

Yes, I had a (female) minister call my phone once trying to get ahold of some man about helping provide for a needy family in their community a Thanksgiving dinner. She sounded desperate for him to call her back so I couldn't ignore that one. I called her back and told her I was very sorry but she had the wrong number. I didn't want her waiting on that return call thinking she'd left her message successfully. I felt so bad for her because it was the week of Thanksgiving and she explained that this man was helping her get together a dinner for this family who would not have one otherwise and my number was the one given to reach that man. She hadn't dialed it wrong, unfortunately, she was given my number. This was about 5 years ago and I always hoped that man contacted her himself since it sounded like a sad situation.

Had an OB GYN office call my number one time to either confirm or alter an appointment time. I had to call them to tell them you had reached an incorrect number.

Yes if they leave a message that seems important or if they keep calling my number. I haven't had a wrong number call in years though, thankfully!

Yes I have, many times. For a long time we were getting calls for a Lawn Service Company. After 3 calls in over a couple weeks period, I called back one that left a voice mail. I explained to him he had dialed the wrong number. He said, "No, that is the number put on the Flyer".

I asked him, what Flyer? He told me it was put in his newspaper delivery box. So I got my answer. I looked up the Real phone number and called and spoke with the owner. Nice guy, and HS apologized. I told him I was more concerned about him losing business than the few calls I was getting.

The few calls continued and I called each one back and gave them the correct number for the Lawn Service. The owner offered to mow our acreage for free, but I declined. Someone made a mistake when they printed the phone number and I felt they all deserved a 2nd chance. Can't see harming any small business over a few extra phone calls.

I do if it sounds important or if they were calling MY number and expected someone else.

I've had the same cell phone number since 2007 and sometimes STILL get calls from collection agencies trying to reach someone named Noel who had the number before I did. I always call them back to let them know that Noel hasn't had this number for many years so that they won't continue to call me.

You just reminded me of something I had forgotten! I was getting a slew of phone calls asking about a car I was selling. The problem is I wasn't selling a car! What happened was a garage was selling a used car and posted an ad on line. He posted my number by mistake. I had to track the business down and make him make the correction in his ad. I then was answering all this calls giving them the correct number to call!

Yes I have several times. Usually appts meant for someone else. One time, I got a call with a job offer for someone else. I called the number and told the lady what had happened. She laughed & laughed at first and thanked me profusely then asked "Would you like a job?"

I also had a dirt bag neighor who was in & out of jail. He was using my address & phone number so I got all kind of calls from collectors, parole officers and the like. One of the collection places got nasty with me. Told the he used my info without my permission and kept insisting I knew it. When I said I was only calling back to let them know not to call me anymore and was trying to help by letting they knew they had the wrong info the collector accused me of lying to him because I was covering for him. He kept insisting that this was the number and info given to them so it had to be right. I then said "Wow. You mean this is the first person who ever lied about their info?" Asked for a mgr and he hung up on me.

I still have same ph # but have moved and haven't had any issues for a couple of years now

I always call someone back it the message is of any importance

@cookinfreak I was getting calls like you described. Their message was vague, but I called them back anyway because I was getting curious and annoyed at the same time. Turns out they were trying to track down my ex-BIL who I hadn't any contact with for over 15 years. Somewhere along the line he must have put our phone number down on a document.

Anyway, this company had bought out his collection case and they were trying to get a lead on where he was now living. I spoke with a very nice person and she told me she would remove my telephone number from their files. I never heard from them again.

Yes, I got a message once from a man who thought he had reached some catering company that he had hired to cater his daughter's graduation party. It was a long complicated message. I did call him back to let him know he had left a message on a wrong number.

Over the years I've noticed that probably half of them are mis-dialed (like my number is 1234 and they meant to dial 1233) and half of them are just that they were given the wrong number (mine).

When we first bought this house it was going to be a different prefix so we had to get new phone numbers. I am kind of weird with numbers and have favorite numbers and one number that I simply abhor. So I always ask if I can choose from some numbers. They've always been nice about it because I find that if you're nice to people most of them will be very nice back.

Anyway, when I chose the number for this house I was really bummed to find that one of them must have belonged to somebody who didn't pay their bills but, fortunately, I stopped using a phone on that one and just used it for my internet and such.

The main house number that we DO use for telephoning was apparently the same number that used to belong to some local doctor. For years I was getting calls from this nursing home type place in town - night and day. The frustrating part was that when I answered they would say nothing and then hang up.

Finally, one time, I called them and tried to find out why I was getting so many calls from them and one person told me the reason. It finally stopped but it took about 10 years.

Every now and then I get a wrong number on my cell phone. I've had that cell phone number since 1994 so it's weird but one lady swore up and down that it was the cell number of somebody she was trying to reach. I had to convince her that it wasn't. She was nice, but was really frustrated.

I kept getting texts from a doctor's or dentist's office about a child's appointments. I texted them back.

I found a message on my answering machine at home several years back and it sounded like an elderly lady telling her daughter she had made it home safe and sound from her visit. I called her to tell her to try again since her daughter still did not know she was home and safe.

I also called a woman back who was RSVPing to a special invite and I did not want her to miss out on anything due to a miss dialed #. Both ladies were extremely pleased with the mistakes being brought to their attention.

I have a few texts come in that were wrong number and usually try to correct the sender as well.

For a long while a woman thought my number was the number for a man she was quite interested in. The messages started out as funny, and quickly became very annoying & graphic.

I called her back several times to ask her to stop. She continued to call. The last time she called she asked to speak with 'Bill' and I told her he went out with 'Bitsy' and hadn't been home in several days.

Never heard from her again.

I've done this a time or two.

One time I DID NOT call back was several years ago. A message was left on my asnwering machine from a woman yelling/screaming/calling me names because I was dating her man! It was hilarious. . . very cliche about a wife/girlfriend scorned and taking it out on the other woman.

Of course, she had the wrong number. If it had been in internet days, I would have been worried she also knew my address. She was that mad, and threathened violence if I did not leave her man alone.

She was probably drunk.
