What's Wrong With People

All we hear about anymore are Hit and Runs ! It's so terrible

and frightening !! Here's the latest in the news today .......

Horrifying Dash Cam Video: Hit-and-Run Driver Strikes Little Boy

Arizona police are asking for the public's help in tracking down the

driver responsible for injuring an eight-year-old boy in a hit and run

incident last week.

Tempe police say a dark gray Chevrolet car hit the boy right after

he got off a city bus on the afternoon of March 2.

The boy, who suffered minor injuries, was violently knocked to the

ground in the collision. The car, however, didn't stop and left the

area.

Police say the driver has been described as a caucasian or

Hispanic woman in her 20s and that it's believed there was a

female passenger in the car.

Police released video of the incident, captured on the bus' dash

cam, earlier this week, asking for the public's help in identifying the

suspect's vehicle.

Thankfully this young boy excaped with minor injuries. No one's

safe anywhere ! You need to be very aware of your surroundings.

We've been seeing this played over and over on every news channel for the past several days. The kid is fine except for a couple of scratches. They still haven't caught the person. She did hit her brakes but kept on going so she knew she hit something. My guess is she will eventually come forward or someone will turn her in. Since it happened in Mesa she probably is a snowbird.

I think the rise in hit & runs has a lot to do with distracted driving. People just are NOT paying attention while behind the wheel! Not a day goes by that I'm driving, either on my way to/from work or elsewhere, where I see people weaving in and out of lanes and slowing, then speeding. If I'm lucky to get around them I invariably see them looking down at their phones.

I wish law enforcement would crack down on this like they do for drunk driving because IMO it's every bit as dangerous.

When a cultural disregard is shown for human life, it carries over to all aspects of human life. As we have seen by the reckless killing of that lion, the animals are not excluded.

While I think distracted driving has a lot to do with it, I also see a lot of distracted walking, biking etc. While it does not pertain specifically to this case, people need to be aware of their surroundings. My parents live across the street from the High School, inevitably there is a couple people/car accidents. Kids start goofing around and step right into traffic. Every moring I see a man riding his bike in the street, presumabily to work. He is dressed in dark clothing and only one small reflective light on his bike. Since it is still dark he is very hard to see, particularly when raining. Just think everyone needs to pay more attention.

Distracted drivers account for the reason people get into accidents but there's a whole other reason they run.

Some friends of mine were rear-ended recently on a mountain road near a ski resort. The woman who hit him had no where to go as they were on a crowded 2 lane road. They found out that the woman has no licence and no insurance. The driver has had to use his own uninsured motorist's insurance to cover the damage. If the same woman had hit their car in a parking lot where no one was there to witness it would she have taken responsibility? Not likely.

On this same topic it was on the news here this am that an 11 yo boy was hit by a car yesterday and left in the street while cars went around his body laying there. A couple finally stopped, blocked the street and called 911. The child died at the Hospital. I can't believe people would do this ! The person who hit him has not been found. So sad

I have a rule,I don't answer the phone nor make calls and or send or read text, unless I am at a red light. My family and friends are used "gotta go light green". I have inform those who need to know, If it's an emergency call 911 and than me.

Too many accidents from people texting and talking on the phone while, walking, running and driving. If you must take care of an issue, pull over.

SoCal has at times 2-3 hit and runs *per day.* It's not so much distracted driving as DUI of alcohol or drugs and people without insurance or here illegally, gang members - a variety of reasons people don't want to be ID'd. And plain callous disregard for human life. I'd say that in LA, distracted driving is near the bottom as far as reasons and disregard would be near the top.

Distracted drivers and walkers. I'm not saying this happened in this one particular case but it happens all the time. i think GMA did something the other monring. People are crossing the streets in Manhattan looking down.

They interviewed a woman who was carrying a child and was looking at her phone. She took a mistep at the curb. The child was ok but she hurt her ankles and had to be on crutches.

We recently had an incident in Albuquerque where a woman was speeding and driving erratically on a freeway. She hit something (median I think), a door popped open and a toddler in a child seat flew out landing on the highway. She stopped briefly, a man jumped out and took off running, then the woman drove off leaving the child in the middle of the freeway.

There were witnesses who grabbed the child and took him to safety and called the police with the license number of the car. They picked her up at her house in a few minutes and she was drunk. Child fortunately was not seriously injured but did have cuts and bruises.

And presumably NOT returned to mom, hopefully for a good long while.

I used to think that alcohol and drug addiction was the biggest menace on our highways. These days, I'm not sure if it's that, or cellphone addiction.

A hit and run in my area a few months ago was caught on video.

The victim was crossing a street corner shortly before 3 p.m. when

she was hit by a car. Police said the driver pulled into a gas station

and hid behind an SUV to check out the scene before she fled !!

This was all caught on a surveillance camera. It showed her pulling

into a gas station, getting out of her car and looking over to where

the victim laid (with other onlookers ). She then got back in her car

and drove off !!

The 31-year-old victim was taken to the Medical Center with

serious injuries.

Police said the suspect was driving a maroon Chrysler.

Her license plate was covered with snow.

This video was shown on TV and a young girl eventually turned herself in.

For sure it isn't all we hear about, and it's nothing new. We've heard about hit and run for as long as I can remember.

The only difference is that now we have cameras that capture many of them.

Also here in Arizona last week, a guy driving under the influence hit some bikers, killing 2 of them. I think they were age 68 and age 72. He did not leave the scene though, he stayed and was given a sobriety test, which he failed. So sad for the 2 elderly victims.

I agree with many posters upthread ^^^.

Hit & Run:

The 'Hit' is bad, but it happens often.

What's troubling is the 'RUN.'

More often, those hit & run drivers are under the influence.

Another scenario is they are 100% sober & hit someone by mistake.

The 'run' comes because they're guilty of something else...and poor judgement makes them believe they can outrun that guilt.

Good post....and good reasons.

My SO was on patrol for years...those are many of the excuses for a 'run'.
