I seriously doubt that's the situation considering how it works in nature. Wonder if the other female was a non-pride member?

I saw somewhere that the female lions do all the hunting. The male has several females in his "pride", really a sort of harem. Could have been an outsider being attacked.

The article states that this lioness was attacking HER MATE, not an outsider male.

It makes a good giggle, but everyone knows lions run in prides of many females to one male.

More than likely, this male was a cub within the Pride of these 2 featured females. Male lions reach maturity around 2...his mane doesn't look very large. Everyone in the Pride pushes him out including the females, especially if mating interest occurs.

Both females are protecting the gene pool quality of their Pride.

(Growing up, I watched a lot of 'Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom' 😀🦁)

ETA: @KingstonsMom A female would never, ever attack the head of her own Pride.

The pictures show a very submissive stance with the Lion.

That submission could mean imminent death to the Lion...and a Pride without a lead. A Pride without a leader could mean death to the females/cubs. Mother Nature 101.

Looks like a full mane to me and I watch Nat Geo Wild everyday, LOL!

If you read the story, the male/female couple arrived at the watering hole, the female went for a drink and returned to find her mate flirting with the unknown female.

Yes, lions have many females in their pride, the problem here is this female wasn't in their pride.

The workers in these National parks know the animals very well, who's in their prides, their hunting territory, etc.

But, as with everything else, anyone can interpret it however they want.
