Why did the boards make me enter a nickname which changed by sign on name?

It seems to be a glitch in the system. I just entered my regular sign in name and it took it.

I don't know why. I never change my sign-in name no matter what that page asks me to do. I just repeat usual sign-in except that occasionally I change my password.

There are other threads here that explain this happening.

Some of us have been able to sign in by just using our regular usernames/nicknames.

When it has asked me for a new name, I have just put in my old one and proceeded to sign in as usual, and I have been able to sign in without any problems.
