Florida man expands his Beach Friendly Motorized Wheelchair

Fleet due to popular demand.

He has found a profitable gap in the market for the disabled.The

chairs are custom built with fat tires and controlled by a joy stick.

It gives the disabled, freedom, mobilty and independence

that enables them to enjoy being on the beach with family and

friends.They rent for $ 50.00 to $ 90.00 a day. People taking

advantage of these wheelchairs range in age from 12 to 100

yrs. old. Everyone should be able to enjoy a day at the beach !

That's a great idea. With no mobility issues, I have found it hard walking through the sand to get from the car closer to the water.

Have you seen the Trac Chairs that are made and given to Disabled Veterans? Bill O'Reilly raised many millions of $$$ of donations to have many built. I think he said they cost $15,000 per chair.

He has had his staff members talk with many Vets that received one, and also shown video of where these chairs are able to navigate. Seems like no obsticle is too big for these chairs. Those Vets said these chairs have changed their lives.

Bill's goal is to get a Trac Chair for every Vet that needs one. Good for you Bill.

Yes it is wonderful and they already have beach wheelchairs in Ocean CIty, MD according to my daughter who vacations there with her family each year. I also thought i heard Wildwood NJ has them also.

I just watched that segment on the news. It seems they work great on flat sand. Where I live the sand is softer and deeper ( which is why walking the beach is a killer workout), so I don't think they'd work here. It was definitely a heart-warming story! ❤️

I have seen then on the Jersey Shore where the sand is not very flat.

I just saw the story on the news and there was a man with MS in the segment. He had help getting in the chair, but once he was in, he was so happy. He said something like "For once I don't have to rely on others to get around." It was so sweet and it brought tears to my eyes. Even the man who was renting them was tearing up. i had to use one of these last labor day. we have a place at the beach and it is a private community. they have several of these available at no charge if it is needed. they are not motorized and someone has to be able to push you. they are not always so easy to maneuver, but they do a good job for those who want to get on and off of the beach.

i had gotten up to adjust my chair and stepped back a couple of steps. i did not see a small trench that someone had dug! i stepped in with my left foot and messed it up pretty badly. i tore a ligament/tendon and could not walk on it. the swelling and pain came almost immediately. i had to grab the attention of the guys that set up the umbrellas and chairs. they got one of the lifeguards. they put an ice pack on my foot and got me one of the beach wheelchairs to get me back up to our place.

once they got me back to our condo they gave me a regular wheelchair to use thank goodness.

once i got back home i went to an orthopod , got some xrays, and they got me into a boot for several months. i swear i still have problems from time to time, depending on how much i am on my feet during the day.

Thanks for posting the link. That was the story I saw on the news. What I got this time after watching it again was the man saying he felt a sense of freedom. It really made stop and consider some of the things I take for granted every day.

@sunshine45 I felt your pain as I was reading your story! About five years ago I slipped on the tile in my kitchen and landed on my left side. My ankle turned black and blue and swelled to several times its normal size. To this day I still have issues with that ankle.

About two weeks ago I twisted it by falling off the heel of my backless sandal (yes, it was embarrassing!). I didn't think much of it at the time but it's still hurting. I'm taking Advil and applying Icy Hot to the area. It seems like once we hurt ourselves, the damage remains.

To that point...I broke my middle finger in grade school and never had it set. Even now, I can tell when rain is coming because it still gets sore. It's the only reason I'm happy I live in a drought area!

I can totally believe you still feel pain in your foot. I'd like to say it will go away completely but it probably won't.

**************It's cold for inflamation. The worst thing is hot though it does feel good. Hope you get better soon!

there was a link/pic of a vet using one of those or similar to plow his neighbors driveways :-)

They are super cool they can go all over the place--woods, etc

There are many beach areas that have this type of wheelchair available. You have to reserve it early. It's great for going into the water a little without damaging one's personal wheelchair.

There are many public venues that could benefit from having motorized scooters available. I have mobility issues and own two scooters of my own. When I visited PA. Several years ago at Christmas, my sister and her friends and I toured Longwood Gardens. If they hadn't had scooters for rent, I wouldn't have been able to go. I was also able to rent a scooter for the duration of an Alaskan cruise. It made all the difference in my enjoyment of the cruise.

Take nothing for granted, not even tomorrow. It unfortunately is human nature, for most of us, to take what seem like little things for granted. Seems like most of us have to experience some loss and/or event before we "really get it".

Certain personal events in ones like can help people understand and change their order of priorities in their lives. My experiences sure changed what I prioritized, and in what order, in my life.
