Adult Coloring Books

My DIL gave me a couple of these coloring books for my birthday. My thought was what does she think I am - a five year old. She also included a box of crayons and colored pencils in with the gift. I gracously thanked her and put everything back in the bag and put it in my closet. After Christmas when everything died down I got the coloring books out and was amazed at how beautiful the pages were. So I started coloring and I haven't stopped since. I love it. I don't watch much television so I color and read. Anyone else color? I do wish QVC had a craft forum for us. Thanks. Have a great week end everyone.

I do! I have collected several beautiful books and haven't really had alot of time to do it, but I really love it when I do.

I color in mine at least a couple Times a week. Right now doing a big h e art with a butterfly for Valentine day to mail to a friend. It is very relaXing, and I don,t fall asleep like when I read. I love the fine pOINT PENS, and use the Color pencils the Q sent for shading or a lighter color. I carry a cloth bag to the hairdresser, Dr. Office or wherever I am going to color while waiting. Even to a coffee I stead of a laptop. Ease the mind for awhile. ENJOY, A NICE GIFT AND A THOUGHFFUL DIL.

I did the same thing. I hated all the intricate designs and didn't understand why anyone would relax doing that. So I left it alone and stuck with kids coloring books. Luckily I got gifted with quote unquote real coloring books that aren't those paisley designs but actual people and art. One is a 1950s fashion book and the other is art masterpieces.

I've only colored two of the 1950s fashion and it is stressing me out because I have to actually coordinate colors and patterns and jewelry and bag colors...this was supposed to relax me right? I have no talent in fashion design people!

I was really into the coloring for awhile, but grew tired of it and have not colored for a few months. I'll have to give it a go again.

I feel exactly as you do. The intricate designs just aren't for me, I much prefer the people coloring books ( various period fashions, etc.) or country scenes, animals, that kind of thing.

I draw and paint a little for enjoyment, so at first I thought these adult coloring books just wouldn't be challenging enough for me, but they serve a different purpose. They are much more relaxing, because the only choices I have to make are color choices, and that's a challenge in and of itself.

I splurged on buying tons of Copic markers that are just so enjoyable to use, almost like painting in the lines. The color effects are beautiful and I can do this activity at night while I'm listening to various television programs and I just relax more while I'm doing it, much more so than if I were drawing or knitting.

I am currently working on a coloring book with fashions from the Art Nouveau period and the beauty of the colors in the period gowns surprises me when I'm done. It's all about the beautiful color.

Yes, I too, never thought I'd be coloring at this point in my life, but it's so relaxing. Like being a child again, in a good way.

I received some of these books and coloring tools as a birthday gift from a friend. I'm not very artistic, so donated them to a local nuursing home. They will do a much better job of coloring than I would.

This has really caught on -- I have a friend who is very creative and finds them relaxing. I suppose it's like knitting, although it's not something I care to do.

I was very much involved with painting and drawing in my younger years, but life kind of took over, and I haven't picked up a brush in a long time.

My recollection of art is that it was very therapeutic. It was like reading a great book......you just couldn't put it down until you were finished.

I think this coloring thing tends to fulfill a similar need for people who want to be creative, but lack sufficient art talent to actually create a beautiful artwork starting with a blank page or canvas. Painting from scratch can actually be somewhat stressful when you can't get it just right. I think the more intricate and difficult coloring books may be designed for more advanced artists who might be bored with simpler designs.

I've long used the Dover coloring books full of mandalas, flowers, etc. They have some stained glass coloring books I love. They are made with a translucent paper and a heavy black outline to simulate the black lead of stained glass. I like to use markers on those for the more saturated but translucent color and hang them in a window.

If you look for one oneline, just make sure you specify coloring book. Dover also makes pattern books for actual stained glass windows and getting that by mistake would be a disapointment. (Unless you do actual stained glass!)

I love to paint and draw. I have never liked coloring books. All my friends loved getting them, so I would give mine away. I guess I was never meant to "color in the lines". Not good at being told what to do.

I love coloring books. I've never felt "constrained" by the lines. I let my imagination flow with the color combinations I select. Love coloring!!!!! It's so relaxing!!!!!!!!

I love my Adult coloring books. I wish I would have thought of this and to stay in the lines......sometimes it is hard there is so much detail. I just need a silver and gold pencil. It is so relaxing.

I do the electronic ones. The beauty of them is you can redo the same design only in different colors and put them side by side to determine which you like the best. I only use the ones that are free, though.

My mother is 83 and used to hand sew/embroider. It was getting more difficult for her and I suggested coloring books to keep her hands busy. She had never heard of adult coloring books and thought I was crazy to suggest, but she was game to try it! As you can imagine, she now LOVES them and keeps adding more. I tell her she was ahead of the trend LOL as now her older sister is coloring too.

She's also trying to get my brother to color. He's been having some health issues and she hopes it will help him relax. I told her it wasn' really a "guy thing", but she still tries.

I'm trying to enjoy the many books I've been given but I find it frustrating.

As I said in another thread, give me a child's coloring book and the Crayola 64 pack, and I'm a happy camper.

I actually began feeling overwhelmed by coloring intricate patterns. I then was introduced to an adult coloring app that allows me to try differenr color combinations and relax instead of worry about choosing the best options.
