What Traits Are Important To You In A Partner

When I was young and stupid I thought first he had to be handsome. My wise mother would say "oh, he can be abusive to you, but as look as he's handsome". Now I'm older and wiser. I look for someone who is kind, compassionate, has a sense of humor, is generous in spirit (also not a cheapskate), who is also good to his mother. It is nice if you are physically attracted to someone but I think someone can grow on you and become handsome because you love him. I have seen too many women disregard someone because he doesn't measure up to their idea of perfection. By the way I'm still searching for Mr. Right!

Kind, loves animals, compassionate, trustworthy, intelligent, honest, employed, good listener, happy, sincere, humble, considerate, hard worker, communicative and fair. Basically just thought of my (((DH))) and his qualities.

Both my parents are really good looking. My mom grew up with an abusive father then my father was not very kind and that made her have some issues but overall she's kind and compassionate.

Unfortunately, dad never was and never will be. I guess I internalized this; I have never focused on finding a partner that was handsome but mostly wanted one that was kind, compassionate, loyal and affectionate. My first BF lived in another town so it was hard to get to know who he really was. We were matched up by a co-worker of mine. He happened to be good looking and in the end that was all he was. I know there are a lot of kind really good looking men out there.

My second BF who is now my husband is the perfect combination of attractiveness, kindness and intelligence. He is not a Don Draper looks wise but I've never been into that; that was my dad and I didn't want to take my chances.

For me the #1 thing is to be a genuinely good person. My DH is. This has made my life easier because we have the same values, morals and way of being. I'm confident we will raise our children with the same moral compass and hug them a lot in the process LOL. We both love to cuddle, are silly at times and just love to be happy.

Honesty, integrity, kindness - those three words describe my husband to a tee and they are what's most important to me. I've been married four times, so I count my lucky stars every day that we found each other!

A good heart/spirit, open minded and nice sense of humor. I guess I really don't have a lot of qualities I look for in someone, I guess I base it more on my gut and whether we "click" or not.

My DH's birthday is on Valentine's. I already have his gift . @Jordan2 I totally agree; I've been married 3 1/2 years and I still feel like when we first got together. I know how fortunate I am.

Ironically, I think he came into my life when I decided to put myself first. I had decided after my the end of my first relationship to focus on my studies entirely and not to bother with relationships.

At first, I didn't see him as a potential partner because he was a bit younger than me but I allowed his virtues to speak for themselves once he began to pursue me. In addition, we were friends first then partners. So, we got to know one another without the pressure of trying to be perfect.

So, the moral of my story OP is that your perfect mate may not be exactly how you might imagine it. Just focus on being happy, being a good person to yourself first and keep an open mind.

Also, follow your gut. My parents were dead set against my BF for a long time but I held my ground. My mom now adores him but my dad hasn't even met him yet. His loss. They felt since he was younger he didn't have much to offer me since at the time I was making really good money and going to school both full-time. Yet, I saw his potential; he had the qualities I needed most as mentioned before even if he wasn't stable financially.

When I was looking for a guy my number 1 priority was he had to be employed. I wasn't particular what he did for a living but he had to actually be working.After that,he had to be at least reasonably intelligent and have a good sense of humor.And he could not be a drinker.

Edited to add, and he could not be a doctor.I would not even go on a date with a doctor.

She actually did say it! She wanted me to find someone with good qualities instead of someone who was just a pretty face with nothing to offer.
