State documents show that employees at the Flint state government office were told not to drink the water and given bottled water and water coolers because the water wasn't treated and was harmful..

I am just starting to read about this, some rapper from Flint is getting celebrities to contribute to this cause. My concern is: wonder what other cities have this same problem. If it is there maybe some other cities have it too. Thought the gov. checks our water systems how this got this far is beyond me.

If you live here then you know this goes back to 2014, the date on that leaked memo. We all knew, it wasn't untl CNN showed up that anyone noticed.

What isn't being more widely reported is now McLaren hospital in Flint is suspected of having legionella in their water back to 2014. The story is on WNEM, a station that covers Flint.

The hospital insists children had the flu, were treated and released.

Not surprising.

But I won't even suggest that we learn to question, investigate and do for ourselves, rather than trust the system. That would just give us less to be disgused about.

I recently had a discussion with a friend at how I'd noticed how many people buy bottled water.

Go into a COSTCO and you see people in there buying bottled water. People you'd never think they'd buy something like that (when you see them and what else they're buying).

It crosses all ages and all ethnicitys..

My family and I have always drank bottled water. When my girls were growing up we had the big bottles delivered. After my husband died and my girls moved on, I started buying the bottles.

It's amazing to me that in this day and age in this country we should have to worry about the safety of our water. I never worried about it being safe, I just didn't like the taste of it.

I hope it isn't like so many other things in this country. No one gets punished and it fades away and these poor people are left to deal with it.

Things move fast in this country. I hope it stays in the headlines.

@Annabellethecat66 Bottled water - the "plain" kind in little pastic bottles can also be sourced from municipal water supplies so it is not necessarily better than tap water. You have to read the labels carefully to see where it is sourced from.

I suspect many large cities will be "discovering" similar findings. Just this evening on the late news they stated that my city's water supply system may be "hiding" dangerous contaminants and we're much larger than Flint. Oh joy!

This is what concerns me about fracking, which is an issue in my area.Safe drinking water is our most important resource, not just for us, but for future generations. We can't take it for granted.

Fracking is a nightmare for many reasons. The water issues (contamination and the inability to treat the contaminated water) and the chemicals in the air causing people to get sick and then the earthquakes. What a disaster. I can't believe so many don't realize the disaster fracking is and will be. People should really do their research on fracking and not just believe the politicians and companies' commercials stating it is safe.

I have been passing along warnings and data condemning fracking for more than a year. And that included poisoning water and wells. Most people said it was just PC untruths. Not everyone, but most who responded.

That is because they really don't understand the science behind it and what is occurring. Also, they are being misled by a variety of people and groups about it and they choose to believe them. Many who allowed them to frack on their land for big $ have come to regret it. Many people are blinded by the money they throw at you with no real understanding of the repercussions. Oh but it provides jobs and makes us less dependent on other countries for energy and blah blah blah nevermind all the negative stuff it does.

I reside in Ohio and just recently we had a community with high levels of lead in the water. Schools had to be closed and residents were told not to drink the water. Schools finally opened but all water fountains are covered. The person in charge was told years ago that there was a problem and did nothing about it. He has been fired but meanwhile the damage has been done. Kids have been going to school and drinking out of those contaminated fountains. I'll bet his family drinks bottled water. Shame Shame Shame on anyone who would do this to innocent people. By the way, those innocent people who drink the contaminated water pay these peoples' salaries from their hard earned tax dollars. What a disgrace! They are now discovering other communites with similar issues. Why don't people in charge do the right thing? After all, that's what they are paid to do. I cannot fathom how anyone can live with themselves knowing they are putting the lives of other human beings, especially children, at risk. docsgirl

THERE IS.....SEBRING, Ohio is going through something similar. Their water tested with high levels of lead in AUGUST....The people of Sebring just found out about it LAST WEEK. The water superintendant was suspected of falsifying records and supposedly the Ohio EPA knew about it since Sept........

The state officials did just what you suggested. They investigated, found out the water was contaminated and took care of themselves by installing water coolers in the state offices. They further protected their interests by keeping it quiet (in order to stay in power).

BTW - This is 2016, not 1816. Water systems are paid for by all of us for the good of all of us. It's not "each household for themselves" when it comes to safe water.

When people join together and make their voices heard...than change may happen. Is there a change.org petition yet? Can anyone fill me in on what others can do to help to create change? I know this is happening in more than one location in the U.S.

Our community gets an annual water report with the levels of contaminants listed. I never carefully read it because I don't know what most of them are. But I do not lead.

If any of you use countertop water filters, here are results of a water test commissioned by Natural News:

I use use a water ionizer and a Zero Water filter in an attempt to remove as much chlorine and fluoride as possible from my city water supply. Neither of these were tested in this particular test.
