QVC Must Be Rolling In The Money On These SNOW Days!

Can you imagine how much money they're taking in? People stuck at home due to the storm.

Here in the Washington DC area all of the governments are closed (even the US Government). The schools will be closed for Tuesday for sure and possibly Wednesday.

People can't go very far on the roads. My daughter lives in Fairfax County and she said many of the major highways still aren't clear yet.

She said you'll be driving down the highway in a lane and suddenly one lane ends and instead of two lanes going you must switch over to one lane.

There's just no place to put all of the snow!

The plow guys are doing the best they can I'm sure, it's just that there is so much snow!

My friend just did my 200 ft driveway with his John Deer dozier.and I park in the garage. However I have a long walk-way to my front door. I'll have to pay my other neighbor to clear that for me. Gives him a chance to earn extra money.

The only people who lose money are people like waitresses and people in the service industry.

I just called my Drs office to find out where the prescription that they swore 2 times BEFORE the storm was called in, where it was and of course they are closed.

I don't know what it's like in other places when it snows. I do know that my daughter lives in Denver Colorado and she said this area uses cheap melting stuff and that's why it's around forever. She said they seldom close schools (did recently for the first time in a long time) and then she drove to work.

We who were born here say, "It's not us that are the ding bats on the road, it's all of the people who come here to work".

You people in places where you get REAL snow must get a kick out of us ding dongs here in the DC area. Don't blame you.

Oh! You can't get close to a Target, Walmart or shopping center. People are out shopping. I know, my friend told me.

in our are the large mall is open, but schools, government, public services (like libraries and museums) are still closed. schools tomorrow are already closed. it is just a mess. we have not seen the snow plow yet, but lots of great neighbors have been using their snow blowers to dig our street out. the kids have been working for the past two days to clean off the driveway, the door areas, the fire hydrant, and make a walking path from the top of our property to the main street. thank goodness for good neighbors!

by the way, please note......packages are already delayed, so if you are waiting for a qvc package do not be surprised if it arrives a few days to a week late. i already have at least one package that was supposed to arrive last friday that is delayed until at least tomorrow. have patience!

I know, thank GOD for the neighbors. I had the family next door to me have to clean around my heat pump. It needs to be cleared to work. I give the boy (17) some money but it's worth every penny to have him help me. He carries in my groceries, etc.

I can't imagine but there are people who don't know any of their neighbors. I have lived here for 38 years and they are 1 acre lots. Lately new people have moved in and I don't know them. I used to walk the neighborhood but can't due to bad knees and back so there are some I don't know.

I'm glad to hear your neighbors are helping you and others. That's what is important. You never know when you will need each other.

I will admit while snowed in I ordered 2 lunchtime specials. I live in Virginia and everything around including my office, was closed Friday and Saturday even our Mall.

I'm in north NJ and got at least 2 feet of snow. Our cul de sac didn't get cleared out til yesterday around 4pm but I wasn't watching TV while we were stuck home.

I had to make sure my dryer vent didn't get blocked by snow so I went out several times to check on it. Same goes for my furnace and hot water heater vents. They go out the side of the house.

I did some cooking and laundry while waiting out the storm.

i have ordered a few things also and when i checked on the ups website for delivery updates i see the "delayed due to weather" notice. we did not have any mail or ups since friday......no trash pick up either for tomorrow. i am going to have a ton of trash for next week.

i am not too far away from you.....in the baltimore area.

our homes are on 1 acre lots, but most of our neighbors have been here for a long time. some of them are original owners of their homes since the mid to late 1960s. anytime one leaves (usually due to death or moving into an assisted living facility) it is a sad time. it is nice to know EVERYONE on your street.....a big bonus. most of the streets in our general area are the same way.

@sunshine45 It's interesting becuse more young people are moving in. When we first moved in 38 years ago, every family was young with young children.

Now most of us have grown old, our children have moved out and the cycle starts over.

My oldest daughter said to me, "Mom. This is a house for young people." She's right.

I just have to get my act together and decide where I want to live. I could live anywhere in the world actually (not unusual, I know a few people like me). However, it will be near one of my daughters so she can keep an eye on me.

One problem I've found though is children have a difficult time thinking of the adult as getting old and not able to do as much. They still kid themselves that I can do most of the same things as when they moved out. Unfortunately, that's not the case.

Anyway, I do see things changing and I don't think necessarily for the good. People stay more to themselves (even here) so they don't know each other as well as we did.

Most of us young mothers didn't work so after the children went off to school we'd bring the younger ones with us and meet for a quick gab session and the children would play.

Now the Mothers are off to work and the younger children are off to day care. Both of my married daughters are stay at home moms (like I was). Both of my girls' younger children go to a play group so they have time for themselves (like I did).

I guess it's all at what you get used to. I guess people have to work these days. However, people don't always need some of the things that make it necessary for both of them to work. My daughters and I got used to living off of one salary long before we quit work and stayed home. I think that's one of the key ways to do it.

Anyway, this neighborhood is changing too.

It's a big country, and the weather has not been bad everywhere! I hope for QVC's sake, they had an upsurge in sales.

But in the western states, we've been enjoying sunny skies! It was 64 in my little corner of the world today.

My relatives in Colorada and Wyoming are also reporting great weather.
