Julep Nail Polish

I bought a trio of Julep nail polish which are all dark colors. They have stained my nails and regular polish remover isn't taking it off. Does anyone have a recommendation on what to use? Sorry if this has been discussed before but it's a rare occasion when I am on here. TIA

@sabra, here are some of the things I do for stained nails:

1) Use a nail brush and some whitening toothpaste and give them a good scrub.

2) Soak nails in lemon juice or soak a cotton ball with lemon juice and let it sit on each nail.

3) Scrub nails with a mixture of baking soda and baking soda.

4) Use a nail buffer.

A nail buffer is the most effective, but it also removes layers of the nail, making it thinner and more fragile. I try to use the buffer only when nothing else works.

When I wear dark polishes that I suspect might stain, I wear two layers of a shiny base coat underneath. (Base coats that dry flat or milky white seem to allow stains more easily.)

Are you using a good base coat first?

I use OPI Nail Envy, two coats before I apply color.

I tried Julep and didn't like it, it looked streaky.

Stain removers are very drying, @sabra. Make sure you use nail oil or moisturizer on your nails after removing the stains.

Unfortunately I was in a hurry and did not use a base coat. You can be sure I won't make that mistake again! Thanks for the suggestion of OPI. I wasn't sure which ones are good.

I don't have strong nails and I've tried a lot of so-called helps & base coats, the Nail Envy is the only one that works for me. Ulta carries it or you can get it online by way of Amazon. no shipping fee.

Mine used to stain, too, if I didn't use a base coat.

There have been times when I was in a rush and used Chanels Vamp without a base coat. BIg mistake. That stains like the dickens.

I have found that using a 4 sided block buffer the best thing to remove stains if I can't get them off. I usually try to soak my nails in the sink with some dish soap and a splash of bleach. That usually takes it off but if it doesn't get it all off I use the 4 sided buffer and lightly buff it off with the #3 which is a light file, just enough to take off ridges which gets the stain off. Then I use the #2 and then the #1 and it leaves my nails nice and shiny like I have a clear coat on them. It seals them too and makes them less likely to break.

I use Seche Vite quick dry top coat and it's so fast and easy. I like Bubble Bath or Samoan Sand. They have one in Hawaiian Orchid, but I haven't tried that yet.

Perfect Formula has some colors, but they don't last as long for me as the OPI Nail Envy. I do love Pink Gel Coat, though. It's a great base under sheer colors because it makes the nail whites look whiter and pop under a sheer color.

Thanks for mentioning tinted versions of Nail Envy, I didn't know about them. Does it stay on well for several days? There are times I need to do my nails and just don't feel good enough to do an entire manicure. In that case, I use a very light color and don't worry about it being perfect. A coat or two of tint would be even better.

BTW, I use Essie Good To Go on top of my topcoat, it's to dry it all fast and I love it. People always ask if I've had a gel manicure, apparently it looks similar.

The OPI Nail Envy colors stay on for several days, but I haven't gotten them to last more than 5. (But I'm also not using a base coat with them. I can get others to last 7 days, but I wear a base coat.)

I've tried Essie Good to Go and wasn't a fan. I also tried Essie Gel Setter, which dries fast and looks great, but I can't get my polish to last more than 3 days with Gel Setter. I've tried just about everything, but I always go back to Seche Vite and have used it for over 5 years, It's finicky, but as long as I thin it regularly, it works like a dream.

I wear a black cherry color by OPI and usr Revlon's Quick Dry Basecoat. Works like a dream! I use two coats of polish and Revlon's high shine top coat. After maybe five minutes I use a spray nail dryer from Sally Beauty, and then again (a lot!) really close about 15 minutes later. (If you do get a little on your skin it will be gone in a day or two!),
