At only 69 yrs of age. I wonder if this is why he married his very, very longtime girlfriend not too long ago. I will miss him - great, great actor.

I was so shocked when I heard this on the news this morning. I actually cried a bit. This loss hurt. RIP Alan. You were one of the best!

Yeah which, in a 40 yr relationship, is recent. I suspect he knew about the cancer then.

I am going to miss his acting. I first saw in him Sense and Sensibility. Such a shame. He died too young.

My most favorite role of his was Colonel Brandon in Sense & Sensibility. The way he loved Marianne was so romantic it touched my heart.

He will be missed.

He was a goofy bad guy in Robin Hood and an expected bad guy in the Harry Potter movies. Enjoyed him in Die Hard.

I liked him so much in Sense and Sensability. I wasn't a HP fan, saw some of those shows, and he was a very talented man. What a voice!

It is upsetting that two well-known people both 69 this week passed from cancer. We have got to get rid of that disease.

I have long been an Alan Rickman fan and this one really hurts, especially coming on the heels of the loss of David Bowie. It's been a bad week.

Awful, just awful - what a loss to the profession.

I always tell people, if you want to observe a really effective entrance, just watch Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.

Watch him come through that door like a thunderclap - "There will be no foolish wand waving..."

2016 is sure off to a depressing start with regard to the arts.
