Price of cosmetics Target vs. Walgreen's!

My makeup is old so tossed it all. Went with sis to Target to replace it. I LOVE NYC Colorwheel Pink blush and Almay in the tube, anti-aging color match. These 2 always look nice on my 67 year old skin! Also bought a lovely Cover Girl lipstick #405, Temptress Rose which really looks nice!

Anyhoo, I went to Walgreen's the other day and while there I checked their makeup prices on these items. They don't carry NYC. The EXACT Almay item I paid $12.00 for at Target was $15.49 and the lipstick I bought for $6.89 at Target was $8.99!

I know there's always a markup in drugstores but this was eye opening.

I notice that when I shop online too. Walgreen's prices are usually at the high end.

Hi lovemy grands...thanks for the info. The next time I am at a Target store I'll keep that in mind. A few dollars saved here and there always helps.

Walgreens' gives you "points"......and they have 20% off on senior's day.

Target gives you 5% off if you use their debit card.

All these places have "gimmicks".

The worst are the grocery stores that have "points" toward gasoline. Their food prices are considerably higher.

Overall though, I find Target and Walmart the most reasonable for MOST items...........unless you buy in huge quantities and go to a "warehouse" store.

They get you coming and going! I buy a lot of stuff at CVS because I get a ton of coupons and the CVS Bucks. Their prices -- regular- are not always that great but when I get the the sales and extras off, I really shop! Plus, they periodically send a coupon for 20% off most things that are not on sale. I shop Target, Walgreen, CVS, Riteaid, Ulta -- all over the place for personal care and makeup. I'm always looking for a better deal. Walmart does have very good prices on makeup and personal care. Target is good on some and not so good on others.

Walgreen's has Senior Day? I never knew that. Is it just occasionally or a certain day of the week? I'm in there a lot and I've never heard anything about it.

I find that Walgreens is consistently 30pct more expensive for cosmetics than Target or Walmart in our area. I like to use Maybelline mascara and I never buy it there. We had a Walgreens in the shopping center where my office is located (my office is in a strip mall) and it was convenient but I tried NOT to shop there except for sales. Rite Aid is cheaper, too.

The Walgreens moved to a new standalone building and I haven't been in one since. They are really expensive--prescriptions too. We had a local chain in our state that was bought out by Walgreens and I was sorry about this as they are the dominant chain.

@AngelPuppy1 First Tuesday of the month.........and you have to remind the cashier that you are eligible............This is only good if you have the Walgreens "card" or an AARP membership.......I believe. (Don't quote me!) I missed out on this for a couple years, because I didn't know about it, either.

The Walgreen's near me alternates their senior day between tues and wed...But it's always the first week of the month.

I find that I can never find new products at Target, Walmart, CVS, etc. I buy most of my drugstore cosmetics at CVS as I get coupons and Reward Bucks. I do sometimes shop at Rite Aid because I earn points with my Plenti card. A Walgreens is opening soon near me and I can't wait to check it out.

I was searching for my favorite skin care Boots No. 7 and could only find what I wanted in stores but sold on line. It was something like $15 cheaper at Walgreens so for the first time I ordered it on line from Walgreens. Well it never came. I called them and they said they would send it out again. No thanks, I wouldn't trust them. I ended up paying more at Target and it arrived quickly.

CVS coupons,like Bed Bath and Beyond,never really expire. You can always use them. The cashiers at CVS told me this. But I still buy most mAkeup at Wal-Mart. I also use Ulta when their coupons come out and they have buy one get one half off. If I also use a brand coupon with an Ulta, it gets really cheap.

I have Target, Walmart, CVS, Walgreens and RiteAid very close to me. I can't remember the last time I stepped foot in a RiteAid. CVS isn't a normal stopping point for me either because of the prices.

Walgreens for everyday pricing is generally cheaper but they do put out a sale flyer every Sunday and sometimes have good deals which draw me into the store. I do have their rewards card and many times I get really good coupons that print out at the register. And because those are Walgreens only coupons, I can combine them with manufacturers coupons. If you can hit a sale plus have 2 coupons, you can really score a good deal.

As far as Target and Walmart goes, I have found some items cheaper at Target, some cheaper at Walmart. Wherever I am going is where I shop. I no longer run from store to store to save a few bucks. I found myself spending more and wasting a lot of time.

I used to be a cosmetics junkie I guess. I found that for me the only way to save was to not buy more cosmetics than I need. I don't buy any drugstore cosmetics any more, because I didn't like half of what I bought and don't believe in taking cosmetics back just because I got home and didn't like the color.

Anyway, I just don't buy much any more or shop for it, but buy something if I need it and see something I love and can try before I buy. How do you all have the patience to shop at all these stores and compare things? Good grief I'm not that organized. Power to you!

You can check their website for information. Discounts for ages 55 and up. I buy hard candy for work and try to get there on Seniors Day because it's 20% off. Check it out!

Drug store prices are generally much higher than elsewhere. Sometimes there's a good deal thanks to a sale price combined with a store coupon and/or the store's rewards program. And that's the only time I'll step foot in one. I wonder how those chains survive.

Come see me and I'll show you how they survive! LOL!! The CVS near us is packed day and night! We always laugh when we come by because the parking lot is full. And there is lots of other shopping nearby. But they are close, you can run in and out quick and get about anything you HAVE to have--from medical to deodorant, ice cream, drinks, magazines, tape, coolers, cards, toilet paper, etc. Everything you must have to survive. It's especially busy about 10 p.m. when people have to have ice cream or are getting a cold, run out of toothpaste, or coffee. etc.
