Selective Service question....

If the individual has a medical condition, does one need the letter at the time the individual would be called up OR should one submit it with the letter? Currently the ONLY medical condition one can have is mental/physical where you are hospitalized... what if the person is medically in the hospital off and on every month? I'm thinking if the person is called up, THEN he would have to get the medical forms together and submit them... but what if they are too medicated to do so?

Any insight would be great.

BTW, this is NOT about politics, wanting to get out of serving one's country (just the opposite) or anything else....just need to know the correct protocol. The gov't site is not helpful either.

I am pretty sure one just registers. One would only need to provide medical documentation if "called up."

Since it has been decades since the military has drafted anyone, I doubt it will even be an issue.

my son just recently filled out his very simple form. why not just submit a letter of medical evaluation along with the form just to be on the safe side. then, when and if they reinstate a draft, you can gather more recent medical documentation.

Because there is no draft at this time, I would not send my medical information to anyone. That's my opinion - if you want a legal opinion, maybe call your Congressional rep's office and ask them to give you the right action.

There is no reason to send medical information because at this time they are not classifying anyone. If they do start classifying people again, then you should send any medical information and they should state who and what to send at that time.

The form has to be completed. Health and medical issues are discussed if and when the individual is called up for service. This is not like jury duty.

My son wanted to sign up for the Army National Guard after 9/11, he had a scar on his back where he had a mole removed. The military would not take him without a signed document from his doctor that the mole she removed was not cancer. When he was in the military they let guys go in his group who were having back problems and that was during the Iraq war.
