There Are Good People

I live in NYC and was watching my local news this morning. There was a man on a Brooklyn train sitting without a shirt shivering. A man gives him the shirt off his back and helps him put it on (he had just a tank on after). The man also gave the shivering man his hat. This was all caught on video and has gotten millions of hits. The guy taking the video heard the man ask if the shivering man wanted to go to the hospital, he had to get off at his stop and doesn't know what happened. Seeing the video almost made me cry. It is good to see that people have compassion and give a helping hand to those in need. Different circumstances that could be anyone of us.

I think we hear more bad than good.

There are many wonderful people in this world. It's too bad we don't celebrate them more often

I believe there is more of this than most of us think. Turn on or read the news, how often do you see/hear of these types of stories? With TV it is ratings, with written media it is sales. Good people/good stories just don't seem to be what media thinks sells their products.

Heartwarming for sure to see stories such as this one, they just don't get the attention they deserve. Thank you for sharing this story here. Right now this world needs more of this.

That was an extraordinatry act of kindness but we need to keep things in perspective and open our eyes. There is goodness and kindness and generosity all around us. Good people and good actions greatly outnumber the bad; if you focus only on the negative, you don't see it.

I agree. Especially about the clowns we have as media representatives who have turned honest and researched news, into their personal agendas and self glorifying worship only because they want to be television celebrities. They are grossly overpaid, puppets for the controlling few, untalented, and liars. Don't they have a sense of right and wrong? Aren't they embarassed to be who they are? My take.

I had to watch this again. It is heartbreaking to me, this poor man probably is homeless and maybe rides the train to keep out of the elements. He probably gets ignored too many times and this was a true act of kindness. He wipes a tear from his eye, truly heartbreaking.

That man or anyone for that matter in that kind of need in this country is telling of where this country is headed. I believe most people don't want to get involved, they believe it's the persons fault that they are in that situation. It does take a village to see that everyone has what they need regardless of their situation.

There is an article on The New York Daily News website (I'm not tech savvy, I would post the link) identifying the good Samaritan. He says people were staying away from the shivering man because of his odor. The man said he was robbed of his clothes and money. The good Samaritan wanted to buy him a meal, coffee, or get him some clothes. I wonder if anyone can follow up on what happened to this man? Also what kind of person robs a man who is down on his luck?

There are lots of good people.

I had no way to get myself and my kids home from a hospital one day when we'd had ice. My daughter had had an allergic reaction with hives near her mouth; this was new and I was afraid her airway was going to close up - I couldn't get out on the road due to the ice so I called an ambulance - all 3 of us rode to the hospital in it - when we got there she got a steroid shot - she was released but we had absolutely no way to get home!

I had my children with me, so I stood at the exit and asked people where they were heading. This man came up to me and I told him what had gone on; he took us all the way home - about 25 miles - and refused even gas money!

Took us right to our door.

By that time, the roads had melted somewhat but I still had no transportation as there are no cabs around here.
