Winter will arrive tonite!

I know winter officially started in December, but here in Indiana, it officially starts tonite - dropping from mid 50s to 20s tonite - snow arriving overnight and will be sub-zero Monday night and highs in 20s all next week - YUCK! My greyhound dragged me and her sister for a long walk this morning - I think she knows we probably won't be getting out for our long walks this week.

God Bless everyone who will be in that cold. I don't think I could take that anymore. We are going to get down to highs in the low 60's and lows in the high 40's next week so I am planning to let the oven self clean one night - I get a clean oven and the house stays warm - a win/win.

I hear you . . . I live in the western suburbs of Chicago and we have been so lucky this season but now I keep looking out the window every five minutes to see if the snow has started . . . I hope you and your furbabies are safe and warm tonight! . . .

I'm in N Michigan and we didn't really have snow until after Christmas. Since it usually lasts until Mothers Day I took advantage of the good weather as much as possible. We're supposed to get around 8" and wind overnight then highs in the teens with snow for the rest of the week. I really appreciate retirement at times like this, hibernating until I'm forced to leave. It's already starting to snow

@ballyk - I too am retired - that's the best thing - not having to clear off car in the morning when it is dark out before going to work. I plan to stay in most of the week.

@deepwaterdotter - I hear you deepwaterdotter! There are people around here that throw some straw in dog houses and figure their dogs are staying warm. My furbabies are in a warm home with their own blankets and beds - they stay toasty warm! I wish all doggies could have good owners!

I live a little northwest of the OP, just checked the real temp. It's 2 degrees, but the windchill equals minus 24. I felt sorry for the crew that came over today to remove snow from my driveway and walk, it's just too cold to be outside for any length of time. And the Vikings/Seattle game in Minneapolis tomorrow??? Brrrrrrrrrr . . .

Thank you all for thinking of the critters during this weather. It breaks my heart when I think of them outside in this weather especially looking out just now the snow has started and it's that heavy wet stuff . . . be safe everybody!

After Indiana's cold spell its moving East and we will get those 20 degree temps on Monday after some heavy rainfall this Sunday AM.

All the outside decorations have been brought inside already in preparation for this. I detest removing decorations when its freezing outside.

Northeastern Indiana here and bracing for the cold. When is hasn't been cold for so long it's a little hard to take....windy and cold is the worst. It just goes right through ya. We have the generator ready to go in case. Right now it's around 39 or 40 with light rain off and on. It's so funny looking. Our grass is fairly green and their are light yellow green tips on our evergreens and we saw robins this morning! Weird......

We had a foot of snow last week, but haven't had the really low temps. Getting them starting tonight though. It was bound to happen. The sooner they come and go, the closer to spring.

I'm here in Chicago, near O'Hare, & it's really coming down now, we'll also go into the deep freeze soon, I think they're predicting 3-6", so we'll see.

@jubilant - I know, they said 40 mph winds plus the cold! It's raining here too quite heavily. I think NW Indiana will get most of the snow.

We are in SW Colorado. We've had snow just about everyday for over 2 weeks. So glad the sun is out today. Single digits tonight. We totaled about three feet. Be careful out there. Driving can be sketchy...DW

@dancingwoman - I can't even imagine how many accidents there will be when the first snow comes through - people forget how to drive!

It is currently 5 degrees with a -14 wind chill...much more like our normal weather. Tonight will be -8 with -30 winds and tomorrow will be 2 degrees for a high.

Folks who go to the Vikings game will definitely need their faces covered. Being stuck in a seat and not being able to move around in these temps is not the best scenario.

It has already started here in Southeastern Wisconsin, however it doesn't seem to be sticking yet-probably not cold enough.....Tonight it will be though-freezing temperatures for the rest of the week!Winter is here.......

As long as I have a warm house that I can afford to heat, and a warm car to travel in, I'm fine.

I worry about the homeless people and animals, as well as the poor elderly and those with children who can't afford to keep their homes warm.
