My wife worked on insurance claims for over 27 years. She had both Medical and Dental claims. She had to know all the Medical and Dental codes and terminologies, and also be able to read Dental X-rays.

Her job title? Medical/Dental Claims Analyst. Never was referred to as a Medical or Dental Coder. That is the extent of what I know about coding titles.

I did billing and coding for a big HMO in Northern CA. What is now called MEDICADE, and boy is it abused. Went on to be a coder and BILLER for WORKERS COMP. This was in the 90,s when you trained on the job, now you need to get a college certificate for same. I also did coding and billing for ER, and VICTIMS OF VIOLENT CRIMES.
