Anyone watching Blackfish on CNN right now?

Blackfish is about Tilikum, an aggressive orca whale that killed 3 people while in captivity.

It is nauseating the conditions these whales are kept and the secrets that were kept hidden from the trainers. It is hard to watch.

I will never go so Sea World again. They denied the mis-treatment of the whales, living conditions and so much of what really happened.

Same thing with Zoo's. I remember going to Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago. I saw this polar bear walking to the end of a cliff. He would stand their, do a pirouette and then turn back to where he started.

He repeated this performance by himself, over and over for hours. It was sickening.

I refuse to believe an animal that is used to the entire ocean as it's habitat, is happy in an aquarium.....no matter how "humanly" they try to say it's cared for.....not a fan of any zoo either..........................raven

One of my most worn t-shirts says "Free Tilly" on the front and "Boycott Seaworld" on the back.

It creates conversation (good!) every time I wear it.

I could not watch. It so saddens and angers me. No ORCA whate should ever be in captivity, EVER. For what? To do stupid tricks for lamebrains in an aquarium?

Sometimes animals are injured and have to be kept and cared for because they would not survive out in the wild. For instance the dolphin WINTER who has a prosthetic tail.

Keiko, of "Free Willy" movie fame, was held in captivity for many years before taking off on his own from the Iceland coast. But Keiko never bonded with other orca "pods" his handlers thought might adopt the whale.

He swam to Norway, sought out humans again and died of pneumonia while in their care in 2003.

Howard Garrett, co-founder and director of the Orca Network in Washington, said he could envision a situation in which handlers might take Tilikum on "walks" before a true release. And if he could not find his family, he could learn to return to areas where humans could help.

"They need companionship above all, more than food," Garrett said of orcas. "In the absence of family, they'll follow human friends."

What bothered me about Tilikum ... is that Sea World would have to enclose the Orcas at night in a pen. They were almost parked like a car is in a garage with little movement. I would like the idea, that could be let out to swim even if it was cordoned off ...but they probably feared, they would get loose and starve or get hurt.
