I am watching this silly little show, Sex Sent Me to the ER, (eye opening sometimes, lol), and this commercial came on with Oprah. She says she's not trying to get into a certain pair of jeans, or a dress to go to some big event, she just wants to make 2016 the year of her best body, and wants us to join her in this quest.

I think she is in her early 60s. I am as fit as they come for my age, exercise regularly with Hot Yoga, treadmill, weights, etc., etc., etc., but I can guarantee you, whatever I do, this will NOT be the Year of My Best Body. I think that was about 40 years ago. I am the same weight and size as I was in college, but Gravity has encroached and my skin has changed. What do you think? Is the year of your best body about what you weigh?

No I don't but exercise and eating right has been my lifestyle for most of my life. I'm the person that doesn't feel right if I don't exercise. Besides I love to dress and I want my clothes to look good. I am over 50 and wouldn't be able to wear many of the clothes I do if I didn't. I look better than I did when I was younger but most importantly I feel better.

I guess if you've been at an unhealthy weight your whole adulthood, as perhaps Oprah has, this could be the year of your best body. But I agree, MaggieMack, if you've always been at a healthy weight and taken care of yourself, aging sure isn't going to make it get better lol

Maggie, your post made me laugh. I'm also in my 60's and certain things are never going to look the same, even though I've stayed fit and worked out my entire life. Stuff happens. I'm healthy though. Maybe we need to think of this as an inside job.

You heard Oprah's words but you don't have clue as to what whe said. Probable bcause you have never been signifcantly overweight and you are hung up on numbers. Numbers on scales, numbers on dress tags. Also you feel superior because you haven't been overweight or obese. You exersize, you feel good, you like the way you look. Well, goody for you...lol Oprah isn't tallking to you in those commercials. She's talking to people like me. Right now I am 55 and even thought I weigh 237lbs. (I once weighed 370), I am in better physical shape that I was in when I was 35. Not JUST because I lost weight but because I eat much healthier, I eat fruits and veggies and lean proteins, I take vitamins and supplements. I know more about health than I did when I was 35. Yes, Oprah is 60ish now. So what? Many, many women in their sixties are tter and healthier than they were 20 or 30 years ago. Yes, losing weight is a good thing but I think Oprah and WW are saying that if we do the right things; eat well, move our bodies, get the IMPORTANT numbers down....cholesterol, blood sugar, triglycerides, blood pressure etc....the weight will take care of itself. And even if we NEVER lose a pound but reap all the other benefits, we will be stronger and healthier. At 55, if someone told me that I could choose between perfect health and strong, fit size 18 body or a size 6 body that required constant near starvation, over exersizing and an obsession with food....well, I think you know what I would choose. That's what Oprah is saying in those commercials.

Hi MaggieMack,

I think this year is going to be about getting healthy. I plan on working out more and eating better. I would like to lose 60 pounds.

Tomorrow I start Jessica Smiths Walk Strong program. She has free you tube videos, but this program can be bought at Amazon or downloaded from her site. Ten 30 minute programs over six weeks. She has a community that's very supportive. My other goal is to start P90 by the end of the year. Not the extreme one, this one is for beginners.

I left my my stressful position at work and now can devote time to taking care of myself.

PS I love that show!!!!!

You are going to feel so much better! A word of caution about the yoga portion of the P90 program: just do what you can comfortably do. I've not done P90, but several of my yogi friends have and they all say it's the hardest yoga classes they've ever taken. Again, good luck, and look out for the fit-shamers.
