TROLL? Why be rude to others?

I had a post regarding clothing organization of which many people were of great assistance. I than had someone make reference to me as a troll. Having no idea why I would be a troll as I am a huge guy, I researched it after this kept eating at me.

In Internet slang, a troll (/ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory,[1]extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog) with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[2] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion,[3] often for their own amusement.

This sense of the word "troll" and its associated verb trolling are associated with Internet discourse, but have been used more widely. Media attention in recent years has equated trolling with online harassment. For example, mass media has used troll to describe "a person who defaces Internet tribute sites with the aim of causing grief to families."[4][5] In addition, depictions of trolling have been included in popular fictional works such as the HBO television program The Newsroom, in which a main character encounters harassing individuals online and tries to infiltrate their circles by posting negative sexual comments himself.[6][7]

Why on earth would any one be so rude to make such a comment about some one they have never met, have no idea of their morals or beliefs, etc. Call me grouchy because my pain meds are wearing off and I am bored, If one of my daughters acted like this, I would take her car for her life. No wonder we are at war all over the world, when people are disrespectful to others here on this forum. All I have to say to the rude person is may you learn to love yourself so you do not hurt the feelings of others on purpose (not that I am hurt, just confused as to why people can be so rude.

Call me a grouch today.

@INDIANA BONES ... Welcome Mr. Troll. LOL We can be rude at times but so is life. Maybe you organizing hit a nerve for some. I've been grumpy today trying to put up Christmas while DH was talking about cleaning out the attic, getting new sweaters, doing this and doing that. Oh please just let me get thru this.

Stand your ground with this bunch and you'll be fine.

My opinion of the nasty folks is: Hurting people hurt people. Ignore their comments. Perhaps feel a little sorry for them as they must have "issues" we cannot know about.

Honestly - no insult intended, but you must be pretty new to online forums if (1) you had to look up the meaning of the word troll, and (2) you were shocked and offended at the accusation.

Rudeness abounds on any and all internet forums. There are people who get their entertainment and their sense of self-worth from posting needlessly rude comments. They have always done this and always will do it.

You either ignore them or meet them toe-to-toe; most forum participants do a combination of both. But you either learn to live with it or stop participating in forums - not just this one, they are all the same; many worse. The only alternative is a very strictly moderated forum that is as helpful as toast.

I'm sorry that happened to you, Moroco! That's the problem with anonymous message boards, people feel free to be rude. On anonymous message boards there are women pretending to be men, men pretending to be women, people with multiple screen names, sometimes having "feuds" between their own multiple screen names, people lying about their age, occupation, financial status, location, health, etc... You have to take everything you read with a grain of salt. And try not to take anything personally, althought I know that's easier said than done! Try to ignore the bullies. Sending you a hug!

Wisely stated that those that hurt others should be felt sorry for. Normal people can disagree on an adult level. We will never all agree on the same subjects.

This is very true. Fortunately, the percentage of the population of rude people, or those who never have anything nice to say about anything or anybody is pretty small here. I find them easy to ignore.

There is no point to showing them your outrage or being hurt by them. That's what fuels people like that because they truly don't know how to feel good about themselves without trying to tear somebody else down.

Just remember - it's them, not you. You don't need to give any weight to trolling and, in fact, just letting it hang there without comment is the best way to not give it what it wants.

A shopping network board, largely populated by female shoppers, is probably not a good place to ask advice (complain) about your partner's bad habits. Surely you expected some flak.

I guess I have not read the posts that had these issues. As far as I am concerned, if it makes someone feel more self-confident, let them take it out on me. Thank you for letting me know this happens often.

@INDIANA BONES, you are no Troll! You are kind and thoughtful and the type of man many would love to have in their lives. I appreciate the perspectives you bring to these boards. I've been here less than a year and it took me no time at all to learn why there will never be peace in the world. I think trolls are made miserable by others' happiness. They live in a consciousness that decent people can hardly acknowledge because it is so foreign. They are a small number, thankfully, and I have learned that the best way to manage their assaults is to ignore them. Their opinions don't matter.

Thanks for the Hug. I will try not to take it personally again. I just had never had anyone be rude but there is always a first. I am a big boy, I an handle it. Just confused why they had a problem with me. After reading these posts, I see this is normal on the forum. Much appreciation

i apologize on behalf of any rude poster here because i have found you to be a very nice and polite person. it is shameful behavior and there is no excuse for it.

please don't allow posters who are rude to upset or chase you away. they are not worth it.

Obviously I have problem with conveying information. In no form or fashion was I the one with the issue of my girlfriend's hoarding. I was trying to help take the burden that worried her endlessly off her shoulders. Where did I think I would get good ideas? From people here that shop or share good information. I appreciate your post in all sincerity, I will think about what I post next time. Have a good weekend.

I would amend this to say that any thread started to ask advice or opinions on any subject is considered an open invitation by the insult vultures to fly in and roost. They are delighted when they can form a group within the thread and will spend many happy hours attempting to shred people, make people doubt themselves, or feel bad about themselves; it's their part-time job/hobby.

Let's not forget those who make false accusations against others, exactly what OP is talking about and what has happened to me here. You should know that firsthand, @Moonchilde.
