By "heading" if you mean the title of the thread when it appears bolded it indicates that there are responses that you did not see. When the title no longer appears bolded you have read all the current replies.

If it is a thread you started it appears bolded to others but as the author of the thread it does not appear bolded to you until someone replies.

Headings show up as bold if you haven't read the thread yet. Once you read it, it shows up lighter, until new posts are added. It's supposed to help you keep track of what you've already read, and what content is new to you.
