I don't know what caused the fire, but it is on CNN. The hotel is a gonner. It doesn't look like they are even trying to put it out.

@Plaid Pants2- Such a sad way to start the new year! I think living in a tall building would be scary to me. I worked on the 22nd floor in downtown San Diego when an earthquake hit and you could hear doors slamming shut from the rocking. Shortly after that I changed jobs (not because of that), but it was on a lower floor and I felt much safer. Something about tall buildings.....

No, the fire is not at the world's tallest building, but at a hotel that is close to it.

This is a country that relies a LOT on "almost slave"labor from other countries. Their human rights record is among the world's worst. They slap up huge building with poor safety codes - and MANY foreign workers tend to die from lack of safety measure on the building sites.

I doubt they give a hoot about how they look to the rest of the world - the fireworks are iconic and have given them a lot of free advertising worldwide over the years.

At least 14 hurt, I don't know of any fatalities.

I'll reserve judgement on the cause. I'm not going to jump to conclusions just based on the area of where the fire is.

It's 63 stories where the fire is . It's near the Burge(?) hotel. 14--16 people with minor injuries.
