I haven't lost AMC (yet) but have lost our local ABC channel on Dish due to a money dispute. Wish they would get it together and come to an agreement.

Thankfully, cable companies are playing hardball with content providers. They can't continue raising rates as they have in the past - more people are cutting the cord. Of course the best thing is to have an ala carte menu but cable companies are resisting it.

Dish network battled AMC and lost a few years ago. People left and got other providers to keep TWD on their TV's. They finally caved and showed all the lost episodes.

We've been with DirecTV for about 10 years now, and so far we've lost nothing. We've had a couple of short term down time on channels while they negotiated new contracts, but nothing long term. There is no way I would ever go back to cable television. You might try to contact DirecTV and see what they can offer you. Good luck.

there was an article in our paper about this topic, as people are leaving cable the rates for sports are going up, the fees being charged for a "service fee" for sports ****** are going up and you can't opt out of those,

Ticks me off b/c we just don't watch or GAF about sports.

Would love an option not to get any sports channels for less money.

About a year ago, Direct TV was dropping AMC too. Finally, they didn't, but we had to choose a higher priced plan to get AMC along with some sports channels that we never watch.

I think AMC is part of the DISH upper tier. I lost it and TCM (that hurt) a long time ago when I downgraded to the basic because I still remember a time when TV was free and I just can't justify a huge bill for it. I'd rather pay my $8 to netflix and cut the cord which is what I've done. HIghly recommend if you aren't married to anything. You'd be surprised how fast you get over it or find you can watch your show other places for free.

I hope they go 'a la carte, we don't watch most of the channels we pay for.

Their big problem will be with younger viewers, so many don't even CONSIDER getting cable, any more than they sign up for land line phones.
For me there is one big problem about cutting the cord and switching to netflix, hulu etc. That assumes you have unlimited wifi access. If I use those services it has to be streamed over my phone using our data plan since we don't have access to wifi other than satellite which would cost more than directv and offer limited choices. Consider yourself lucky if you have options.

I haven't had a cable hike with my provider (TWC) for the past 3 yrs. They have tried but I have the full package and get my tv, phone and internet with them. I have the full package with cable, HBO, SHO, CIN, and a few other I have forgotten. I have a box with dvr for almost all my tvs. I have been a customer of theirs for about 15 yrs with never a late payment. They always offer great specials for new customers that last for year. I told them how long I have been with them and they see how much I spend monthly and every year I call to let them know I will be happy to take my phone, internet and TV to someone else and I would sincerely do that if they raised my rates at all. Google Fiber is being installed to my neighborhood and I will go for that once it is available but for now they haven't raised my rates. They day they raise it one penny I will be happy to change my services immediately to another provider. I told them I think it is pretty lousy how they offer all these new plans for new customers yet don't do anything for existing ones. The lady agreed with me and she gave me her name and extension and told me to call her each year when it is time to get a new contract. I thought for sure she would no longer be there when the time came but each time I have called she has been and kept her word. She even dropped my rate last year by about $15 and gave a certificates for 10 free on demand movies in a 6 month period. Those can range from $3.99 to $6.99 a piece. I am due to call again in Feb. My son in law has set all our tvs up with Hulu and Netflix so if they don't keep my rates the same I have no problem cancelling that very day and just finding another provider within that week.

Cable companies need to watch it. Too many people I know have completely cancelled all of their accounts and just stuck with watching Hulu, Netflix, etc.. My daughter doesn't have cable at all.

I think the key to getting your rates not raised is to let them know you will cancel everything and go with someone else. Of course that helps if you have several things with them like having both tv cable and internet or phone. When they see you pay a good amount each month, they don't want to lose that.
