topic Bird Bath question.... in Community Chat

We live in Florida and will be leaving for a month. I have a birdbath and birds drink from it all day and take their baths. I change the water almost everyday. But, now it is getting more humid here and every 3 days or so the water gets "funky". I scrub it out and then put fresh water in it. Have a neighbor that will put fresh water in everyday but probably won't always notice the bad part (elderly lady with slight vision problem). I have heard there is something can be added to the water to keep the algae away. Someone said add bleach but I am afraid for the brids to drink it. Any suggestions would be helpful that I can pass on the neighbor.
