What's the Big Deal?

I'm referring to the new Star Wars flick. I was in my youth when the first movie came out and saw the sequels. Now, the teens/youth are making such a deal about this movie. Why? It wasn't in their time as most all weren't even born then.

You know what they say, different strokes for different folks. Or as my sister taught her children "one person's yuck may be another person's yum".

My 73 year old mother has already seen the new Star Wars movie ahead of anyone else in the family. I'll probably wait until it comes to pay tv.

Gosh......I wish every family was so "liberated". My ma commanded everyone to do exactly as she said............and my only living relative (a female cousin) is the same way. My first husband threw me out because I didn't vote for his candidate (I got a lawyer pronto)..........

Don't give us too much credit. Some areas we're "liberated" and others we're uptight.

My parents don't vote the same ticket and it causes some upset. More from my mom who thinks my dad's thinking is backwards. lol

I think it must be all the media hype. I never did follow the original - only saw "The Empire Strikes Back", sitting in the front row with very wide eyes. I've seen more amazing things.

Oh I think its wonderful that we have something out for the public to get excited about! There have been sooooo many horrible things going on in our world lately why can't we get excited about something as simple as a "Star Wars" moviie? May the force be with you.

Yeah, I understand why you are asking. I think the answer is that so many generations are planning to attend. Kind of nice that there is a move that appeals to the 8 year olds up to the 80 somethings.

My son is 21 and he has always loved Star Wars. He has every DVD given to him by my husband. He couldn't wait to see it. I took my mom to see it when I was 20, she fell asleep and I couldn't figure out why it was so popular.

@Sweetbay magnoliaI think it's way more than media hype. There's a huge, huge cult following for the Star Wars culture which ranges from people like me who are definitely elderly right down to kids whose parents and grandparents have followed every film, probably all sorts of analysis of them for years and years.

I'm not even sure why, but I never got started and now really don't feel the urge to back up and catch up, but I also feel left out because there's so much talk about the whole phenomenon eveywhere I go.

@millieshops, sure, I can see that. I had a colleague who could spend hours on the deeper meaning of the whole original series. Parable, metaphor, analogy, the story of creation . . . I hadn't thought about the "throw backs" who might be bringing the "next generation" into the fold.

I guess it just never hooked me. I don't feel like I'm missing much, though. Never had kids, either. Good day to you!

I have a little niece and she doesn't even know what is going on and, of course, doesn't know anything about the old movies, yet, she is all gung ho on the new movie. It is because the young kids just hop on the band wagon for all things new and of the moment. Plus, all the merchandise and products available. So, that is what is appealing to the very young kids. T.V. and media tells them what is hot and what they should want -- so they do!!!

I saw all the original movies when they first came out and I liked them at the time, although I was not a fanatic about them. Now, I couldn't care less and am kind of sick of hearing about all the hoopla.

As they say -- there is nothing new under the sun!!!

It's harmless fun and the classic good vs evil......I find it nice that it is a multigenerational movie. I liked the original and was not into it like my grown son but he is attending many Star War events and having fun....there is so much evil in the world and bad news....Star Wars is a relief and good clean fun...I would like to think good always wins against evil.

I saw the original when it first came out and enjoyed it and the first sequel, but have never been fannish about the franchise. And after the first sequel....I am not a sequel person. Totally lost interest.

I have two great grand nephews who wen't alive even when the first sequels were released who have seen every film multiple times and are totally into all of it. Their Xmas presents from me are all SW - I figured I couldn't lose!

We have few happy things that we have in common as a nation, let alone multi-generational to boot. For that reason alone, it's a Good Thing.

Late hubby was an absolute sci-fi fanatic including Star Wars and Star Trek. We had an entire room full of memorabilia. My kids grew up with it and loved it all and my grandkids have grown up listening to stories about all the Star Wars and Star Trek fun and games and parties.

Don't forget too that Star Wars is frequently talked about on the TV show Big Bang Theory which is super popular with young folks, so now they'll get to experience it first hand!

I was about seven or so, when the very first "Star Wars" movie came out. I had a playmate who went crazy for the film.

I have never, ever seen a single "Star Wars" movie in my whole entire life.

I'm happy that other people are enjoying the whole franchise, but it just never interested me.

Although, I do wish that I had bought some of the "Star Wars" action figures when they first came out with the first movie though.

In mint condition, I'm sure that they are worth a few dollars now.
