Where's the Jewelry?????

I am missing the jewelry shows the Q used to have for Christmas. If someone bought me a Dyson, Vitamix, a mattress, or a computer (unless I was a college student) for Christmas, they would be wearing it!!! Not even able to enjoy it in the background as I wrap gifts, just all the same boring items over and over. I want more jewelry back, maybe I want the 90's back!! HAHA

I remember the 4 hour DMQ shows, the once in a lifetime jewelery shows, Silver Style, 18K gold shows...

I could not agree more! For me, its incredibly boring to watch cameras, Vita-mix, Garmin anything, computers, or hard goods shows. UGH! I have not watched the Q in days and will be skipping it for the weekend due to the boring programming. In the old days, they showcased much more jewelry and lovely gifts for the ladies. Now they're targeting students and more generic items. No thanks.

Almost nobody is really pushing jewelry. In all the hundreds of emails I've seen recently from Amazon and Costco, I think there have been only 2 that featured jewelry. Amazon's was bracelets and I haven't bought a bracelet for over a decade because I finally realized I virtually never wear the ones I have. Costco's least expensive item was over $1000 - probably don't have to tell anyone why I didn't buy from that sale.

I do think QVC will offer jewelry next week once they are past the items most people are buying. I used to look forward to those presentations because I never cared whether I got my from me to me present before Christmas. Now? I might look, but I just started month 27 without spending a penny on jewelry and I'm still having fun wearing what I own. I'm probably one of the reasons QVC doesn't offer jewelry as often as they used to

Because people can't afford 14K and don't want to pay almost-14K prices for costume jewelry and "gold-splashed" bronze or hollow mystery metal that breaks when you look at it.

@Effie54I think those days are gone although I wouldn't say for how long. I did browse the jewelry department in one of my favorite department stores earlier this week. Usually at this time of year, you waited in line to get a clerk. I could have had 5 of them that afternoon. No reason to because they had nothing new and interesting and not even much in the way of basics. I might actually buy an interesting silver earring - they had none, not one!

The other two large home shopping outfits continue to program jewelry. Meanwhile, back at the Q ranch, it's business as usual and yet more repetition of the same old tedium. On and on and on. Over and over again.

People complained about those shows too as QVC selling too much CZ or being the "all-Diamonique" channel.

In the really good old days, Diamonique was set only in precious metals of 14 kt gold or Sterling Silver, except for watches. HSN was mocked for selling it in "cheap" 10 kt gold!

I'm with you Millieshops! I just wanted a nice piece of jewelry for Christmas, but didn't find the wow factor on QVC. I thought the Affinity line was too expensive, for the ratings they achieve. We are members of Costco, but for a membership club, the prices are out of this world! I guess I can try Sam's Club (more reasonable) or our local jewlery store (which has good prices). I miss the old jewelry shows where they showcased so many pretty Diamonique rings. And yes, people do not want to pay the price for the 14k gold.

For those who got stiffed for a good gift and to catch those who got cash or a gift card burning a hole in their handbag.

@steviebSadly none of what they sell comes anywhere close to what I used to buy from QVC.

We don't even have to argue. Jewelry is a very personal purchase and no one will ever persuade me to part with my money to buy what I've seen on the other shopping channels. That's my decision.

@PearleeI think I bought one of those horrid cheapy things from HSN way back when I didn't pay enough attention to what I was ordering. Total waste except that it taught me to watch way more carefully.

I am so fortunate to have what I do and not to feel any pressure to add willy-nilly to my collections. Now my money is going to electronics and other practical items and I'm working to cull my jewelry, not add more. I'm sure that's why it doesn't bother me to see fewer jewelry shows.

@millieshops Actually, we agree on this one. The jewelry being sold on any of the 'big three' is a shadow of what any of them used to sell, and yes, at one time, QVC led the pack. That said, I'm not seeing much on any of them, and not just the other two, that would induce me to purchase much jewelry from home shopping these days. The occasional piece, but not very much and not very often. Like you, I really don't need more jewelry anyway so am rediscovering what I have.

@millieshops I have a few 10 kt gold pieces of jewelry (no CZs in them) from Michael Anthony and they've held up really well and his do look like 14 kt. I'm happy with them (and they are stronger - not as solf- at 14 kt). I guess it just depends on the quality. I never thought HSn's CZs were as good as Diamonque.

I agree. I haven't seen as many Christmas jewelry shows lately either. I remember a jewelry show they used to have. It was always a few days before Christmas and the host would brag that you could still order a piece of jewelry for your wife or girlfriend and get it in time for Christmas. I tend to wear the same jewelry pieces over and over so I don't really need any jewelry. However, I agree with you. I would rather receive a piece of jewelry than a household product.

Some jewelry is selling. The Gem Shopping network is evidence of that. Precious gems set in 18K with diamonds...and yes they sell. Just a while ago today they were selling Van Cleef and Arpel solid 18K watches. But on the whole, people are sick and tired of this bronzo junk. And that is evidence of what is not selling on QVC.

I just wanted a NICE piece of jewelry too! So I went looking for designer watches since the Q doesn't really offer that. I bought myself a Michael Kors watch the Camille and the website even had a $125.00 discount - the watch is a show stopper!!!! The Q's change over to "bronzo" has really turned me off.

QVC is a retailer. it is in business to sell items and make a profit. It is not here to entertain us or alleviate our boredom.

If the jewelry shows generated significantly more profits than the other items, of course they would be on. They do not, apparently.
