Did you grow up with or know someone who is famous now?

It has been more than 40 years since DH and I graduated HS and it occurs to me that no one we went to school with has become famous for any reason. I'm curious if a any of you grew up with someone who is famous now for any reason.

A congressman, a 10,000 Maniac, a Goo Goo Doll, pro athletes (one now a pro coach).

My son is in LA right now and went to a dinner last night. An Academy Award winner showed up after dinner and they all sat around a piano and sang Christmas songs. He obviously knows and works with lots of movie and TV people...but this suprised even him! (he was at the home of a jewelry manufacturer).

My once best friends husband's cousins were the Everly Brothers. Their cousin was Mindy Carson, a well known singer at the time. I never met any of them.

Isn't that something like six degrees of separation?

P. S. I did meet Sal Mineo on a street in NYC when I worked there as a young girl. I asked him for his autograph and he was very nice about it. He was so tiny.

Well, my ancestry goes back to Betsy Ross but I didn't know her....also not in my era but I think I may have met her when I was very young, Margaret O'Brien was a cousin. However, I did go to high school with members of various Doowap groups in Newark NJ. I have met many famous people in the course of my professional life but I didn't know them....

Years ago, my best friend's daughter was dating a struggling actor and he would sometimes stay over, always sleeping on the living room couch, to respect her parents. My friend would get up in the morning for coffee and would sometimes see this young kid snoozing on her sofa. He later became a famous actor and Academy Award nominee.

Yes, I have 1 famous family member.

They are globally famous.

They also did Dancing with the Stars.

They also don't talk to me,what's up with that? lol

I went to school with one of the astronauts that has been up to the International Space Station . . . brilliant kid, I'm so glad to see him do so well!

I don't know if this counts but I grew up with a boy genius who became one of the most famous AIDS researchers in the world. When ABC News did a profile of him, I was thrilled. He was so smart but not handsome. My mother wanted me to date him in high school but, at that age, looks counted more than brains. Still, I'm proud to have grown up with him.

I'd almost forgotten this one - when my cousin Barbara was in high school, her friends tried to fix her up with a young man named Donald Trump. She thought he was obnoxious and wouldn't have any part of it :-)

Several people who've come into my life have become well known. My niece married a woman who is a lead singer for a well known rock band and she's been off Broakway, etc.

I went to school and was pretty good friends with a guys who was an astronaut.

I went to the same high school as some very famous rock singers (they were a year or so ahead of me.

Famous is a very subjective word. Just because some people don't know a person doesn't mean they aren't famous in some circles.

There are actually few people who are really famous (known by most people) i.e. Kim Kardashian (unfortunately).

I went to high school with Naomi Judd's brother and sister. Never met Naomi. She's about 6 years older than I am.

Naomi was home for a visit a few years back. Her mother lived in an area where my oldest daughter lived at the time. Naomi was walking in the neighborhood one day and my daughter just happened to be sitting on the porch. Naomi came up and introduced herself and they chatted for a bit. Naomi came back the next day while my daughter was at work and left an autographed copy of her book, with a message inside to my daughter, on a table on my daughter's porch.

I also, many years ago, lived across the street from Chuck Woolery's mother. A friend from high school later bought the house and still lives there.

This must be the same area that my in-laws are from, north eastern KY. Billy Ray Cyrus was also from this area - my husband's cousin knew him when they were growing up.

@ Lotus, but I don't even understand that -- what difference does it make if you reveal your hometown? I mention that I live in Philadelphia all the time. Who cares? Also, many of these people no longer live in the same city they went to high school in. I don't know, I guess it's just me. I thought I was missing something because it seemed like EVERY poster wasn't giving up a name. Thanks for your response. Maybe that IS the reason!
