Jimmy Carter has announced he is cancer free now.....

Fantastic news.

Here's hoping and praying I will be able to say that soon......

Edited to say I know there is no CBN.......SHOULD BE CNN....Sorry for the mistake.

@ShowMe Thanks for the good news. I immediately thought though of all of the people who are dying of cancer because they don't have the money, ability, knowledge to go to these amazing Drs I guarantee you Mr. Carter went to.

I am glad he is better. He has done a lot of good for the world.

Yes, that is wonderful news......

I have been getting treatments for the same kind of cancer since February......the started me out on the Yervoy (that he was on) for 4 treatments and then have been on Opdiv since that was completed.

Thank goodness he didn't have to continue with like I am...

annabellethecat - I totally agree. From my own history - I was considered terminally ill - but I had excellent HEALTH INSURANCE and FIESTY DOCTORS, I went to NIH for studies and my diease lungs where donated for research (the night of my transplant someone from NIH drove up and picked them up). However - over and over again - you have to be your own advocate AND get the big mouth friend to speak for you when you can't.

He had liver cancer that spread to the brain in 4 places. This revalation today says the brain cancer is gone, but doesn't mention his liver. Has anyone heard anything about that cancer?

Yes, there are many folks out there that can't afford the treatments.

I have Medicare and Supplemental.....which I am continuing with next year. I get my quarterly reports from Medicare, and my monthly reports from the supplemental. Each one is saying that each treatment I am getting......each one......costs $24,000 per treatment......before what Medicare has approved it will pay. They pay $6,000 of the treatment each time I get one, and supplemental picks up the 20% that Medicare doesn't pay.

I thank God that my primary doctor set up my original appointment with my oncologist. He is a very highly recommended oncologist and I trust him......

You don't have to be rich to get good care.....just have to have the right kind of coverage........

The doctors will have to keep a close eye on him, because it could return......and I hope it doesn't.

Believe the brain cancer was spread from the liver......that is what metastised melanoma does. That is what I have......have it in 3 places in my body.....

So far, I've have 3 full body PET scans, and 2 brain MRIs.....the MRIs were good.....no signs of it moving there.

And no, nothing was mentioned about his liver.

@Cookie2025 I am so glad things are better for you. I was lucky. When my husband died he left me without ever having to worry about money. But (and this is a big but) I've been on the other side, so to speak growing up. You never forget your struggles.

My insurance agent (the health insurance guy) represents most insurance companies, he contacted me and said I needed to send him a list of the medicines I take so he can find the best plan.

I'm 69 in a few days and my husband was self-employed so I was told I had to get Medicare (this is the worst thing to me, if a person has the money, they should have to pay for their own ), just saying it would save Medicare a lot of money and I don't mind paying.

Anyway, as usual I put it off. The deadline is tonight. He keeps telling me I need to change insurances that some of the medicines I take are NOT generic and will no longer be covered by Medicare at all! He said people have no idea of all of the changes that are taking place in Medicare and it will be a major blow to many people!!

Anyway, I'm waiting to hear back on some of the questions I have emailed him. He suggested some insurance that he said was new but was excellent.

I hate to make changes. My medicine already costs me a lot of money because much of the time I won't take generics. When you take thyroid medicine most Drs will not let you take generics and my heart Dr said I could take generic but when I asked the drawbacks he named some that were not there with the original medicine!

People think generic is the SAME AS, but if you check into it it is SIMILAR TO. Most of the time it doesn't matter but it can and does sometimes matter.

Bottom line, I'm just one person, yet since I got Medicare, I have been able to see how stupid money is wasted, just from me. I'd rather give it to people who need the help.

I get so fed up with any Drs, lawyers, Congressmen, Senators and on and on who are always telling people what's good for them. Yet, they voted themselves OUT of the same insurance so many people are forced to use (you know what I'm talking about).

Anyway, I didn't mean to take away from President Carter. Did you people know that he is the only President (I know in my lifetime) to put his daughter (Amy) in the DC public school system. Where do you think Obama and all the other people's children go to school? Good for them, just give everyone the right to be able to good healthcare.

Yes Noel.....they found the 3 locations when they did the first full body PETscan. It showed 3 places.....and was originally found when I had my mammogram done. It all started with a mole in just about the center of my back close to the spine.....It was found in the upper lobe of my right lung, mole, and lymph node under my right up close to the breast.....

This OPDIVO that we have been seeing so much being advertised on TV is what I am getting. Believe me, it is very potent. My oncologist has about 3 or 4 of us on this treatment, and he has told me several times that I am responding to it much better than the others.....in fact, he had to stop the treatments on one of the patients.

I know my Doctors do push for the non-generic medications - however - I am taking anti-rejection med's which are generic and my picky Doctors are all on board. The have said they will INSIST if a medication becomes a problem but so far no issues.

The problem I run across, when I need to see a General Practioner is they tell me they will NOT treat me - and to see my Transplant team at Hopkins. Everyone is afraid they will do something which will be a detriment to my good health. I am ten years out with my transplant and doing good. I am having huge problems with pain and most nights are not too bad but there are the moments I am glad for my stash of Oxy (I also take Lyrica). I have nights where 2 hours of sleep and the rest wondering if I should take the Oxy or not. By the time I decide to take some - and get some sleep - I do not bother because I know I need to get up in an hour or two. It is ridiculous.

Medicare coves 80 percent of your expenses - and you can probably enroll in secondary plan to cover the other 20 percent AND your prescriptions. It sounds like you have someone knowledgable assisting you. Give it a try.

@ShowMe, I know you probably couldn't the mole well since it was on your back but could you describe it at all? I have one in the middle my back that is the same skin as my skin, nothing funny about it at all.

A couple of times during normal exams, I mentioned it to my doctor and he said it was nothing. Reading what you've said has made me curious again. Thanks.

If you have any doubts about changing skin conditions see a dermatologist.

ABCDE of moles

Asymmetrical needs to be looked at

Border should be smooth and not uneven

Color should be uniform and not multi colored

Diameter of benign moles should be smaller than the pencil eraser tip

Evolving moles-- mean those that are changing shape, color and form over time

Some doctors even use the letter F-- Feeling itchy or painful-- these get removed as well
