WEIGHT WATCHERS PRICES

I heard that the price of WW is going up dramatically coming soon (2016). Does anyone know what the new prices or know of any news?

@Just4Me I am a lifetime member. I went to WW yesterday and asked the group leader about the changes that are coming. He said Dec. 6th is the day. He told me I should come to a meeting starting Dec. 6th.

I think that would not be a good thing as they are facing a lot of competition right now, I can think of at least 3 free apps to track food and exercise. There must be more. What do you all think.??

Of course no-one knows what the plan is for WW

I'm a WW lifetime member and was at goal just before Thanksgiving (although I know that I am NOT at goal right now). If you're within two pounds of goal you don't pay. When I wasn't at goal a few months ago, I had to pay $15 when I weighed in and attended the meeting. I thought that was pretty high. If WW is going to raise their rates now, given their serious financial difficulties, they will be in even more trouble. Competition from free online sites is really hurting WW. For me, the group support at the meetings and the accountability at the scale worked. I lost 108 pounds and have kept almost all of it off for over 30 years. I still go to meetings because I continue to need that support, but if WW increases their prices, I may be alone in the audience before too long.

I certainly understand that the group support is important, but increasing that pricing would be a mistake in understanding the market.

My suggestion would be if you are truly interested in joining then perhaps sign up now for the Montly Pass. You should be locked into that price. I'm still only paying $42.95 a month even though it went up to I believe $45.95 a month. This gives me my weekly meetings, online app, and live support if needed. Our leader hinted at a few changes yesterday. I'm excited for next Monday's meeting.

Afterall, it's a support group, much like AA is a support group, and yet one doesn't pay to go to those meetings.

There is no way I would expect WW to be free. How would they pay for their staff and their materials they hand out each week? They also need money for research so that the diet can keep improving.

I have no idea about how AA is funded or if it is all volunteer?

I belong to WW's too. I wonder if Oprah's being associated with WW now has something to do with the upcoming changes? I am not blasting Oprah either... if the online prices go up, then I'll cancel my account and find another source for my accountability, like the other free apps.

I was at my WW meeting this morning when someone asked this same question. The leader said these new changes have been in the works for longer than Oprah has been involved. She also said that Oprah owns 10% of the company and that doesn't give her too much say over the program, only in the publicity she brings the program. WW has become much more holistic over the years focusing on more than just the scale. This is where Oprah can fit in as her philosophies can tie into the programs.

@reiki604, thank you very much for the information. I checked my online account & at the moment I am paying $19.95 per month. I have nothing against Oprah but her philosophies won't be affecting my own personal weight lose goals.

This is not true, They pass the basket at every meeting for donations . I found this online and much of it is applicable here.

A.A. is funded by its members donations. Meeting places are usually in rehab centers, churches or community centers. Those establishments almost always donate their space to have an A.A. meeting. I work for a drug and alcohol rehab facility and they have a lot of treatment programs there. The building and the treatment programs are funded by the State and County mental health board, private donations and children's services. The meetings are able to be held there free of charge to A.A. because it is a fundamental part of the recovery process. Otherwise, A.A. in its self as an organization is funded strictly by donations from it's members.

Those groups are non-profit and are run out of churches and public spaces. They don't own a building. There's an over-eaters anonymous group that's free, but it's also a non-profit. Those groups are run based on volunteers and donations.

Weight Watchers is a for-profit business. They own or rent the spaces they are run out of and have a paid staff.

They're not comparable business models and can't just stop charging for meetings.

WW functions like a support group but the leaders aren't professional.

I think it's too bad their prices are going up, that has to be a lot of money for most people.

@Lipstickdiva, I checked my account earlier today & that's what it said.. I paid a one time $59.something for 3 months and it came out to $19.95.. Now what it might go up to after the 3 months I don't have a clue but a plug nickel to a dime it goes up. I may not be getting such a good deal after all when they raise the rates. Sorry to say but they're going to raise the rates til no one wants to pay that much but that's how I feel.

Is this for the online version of WW? I think that's what my daughter is charged, and she doesn't go to meetings -- only does the online stuff. She actually got in on a great deal recently by losing 10 pounds in a certain amount of time. (Sorry to be vague -- I can't remember the details, but I think she paid for one month and got two free or something like that!)
