Leather ?

I was looking at the description of the leather handbag on one of the other stations. The bag (which was noted to be imported) was described as leather, but under the description of leather was a notation that the skins could come from animals, "including but not limited to" (cows, pigs, sheep). My cut and paste disappeared so I my wording may not be exact.

The phrase (including but not limited to) bothered me. I may not be consistent, but there are certain animals I would never, ever want to be part of my handbag.

I feel very strongly that the customer should be given full information as to what they are purchasing - and to make an informed purchase. Am I the only one?

Regarding the leather used (generally) for handbags are the waste products from food sources that would be thrown away and wasted if not sold. These skins are bought in bulk from many sources (that's why they list different animals). How they then tan the hides, dye them or cut them thinly and adhere them to some other material are individual to the purse manufacturer and can be done in many ways. Legally, they can say something is "leather" if there is leather anywhere, however I've seen some horrible leather that shouldn't be described as such because of what was done to it. I agree that the manufacturer of the handbag should say specifically what the leather is....... I don't feel comfortble buying "mystery" leather either.....
