Raid in Paris targeting suspected terrorists

Implying that Abaaoud may have been inside but not yet releasing any details...5 arrested and two killed (one a woman wearing a suiside vest)

Great news!

Every once in a while terrorists belonging to suicide cults will manage to succeed in an individual plot.

But overall, their nihilistic, extremist ideology will be defeated and rejected.

We are stronger, more powerful and more successful than they will ever be.

We just have to stay strong, stay unafraid and stay free - and in the end we will prevail.

We also have to support our leaders - and stop sniping at every setback.

United nations are strong nations.

Edited to add - Yes, I was 100% behind the initial war in Afghanistan and the hunt for bin Laden....like 90% or more of us were...and I'm basically a pacifist.

I was up half the night watching the raid. There's still a great deal of missing information but I hope that the French police got their man. We do know that a woman in the raid blew herself up. The fact that she was wearing a bomb, and other clues, led the French to say they thwarted another attack...just in the nick of time.

I heard from my Paris friend again this morning. She told me about the raid but I replied that we were watching it in the U.S. too. I've mentioned my friend Thérèse because she has been warning about terrorist attacks in Paris for at least ten years. She was always upset with what she felt was the inaction of government officials and now, of course, she's furious. There have been so many smaller acts of terrorist-inspired violence across France during the last decade but only now do the officials "get it."

Setback ? Really is that what the Paris attack was a setback to someone's legacy?

It is not being stated if Abaaoud was among the terrorists in the raid...but the good news is that the raid averted another strike. Breaking news....refugees headed for germany were found to be ISIS terrorists and removed from the plane...our world has certainly changed

And yes, Therese was right to be concerned long ago about the safety in France. There were warnings 18 months ago regarding the recent strike in Paris. Hopefully, our country will get on board with the urgency that exists to protect ourselves.

I know when things like this are done that plans and the actions are kept from the media. It has to be done to capture the murderers.

I just knew a female would be involved. At least one is always used in these sort of things - may be that there are more.

I believe the woman who strapped on the suicide vest did it of her own free will, no force was necessary. It simply breaks my heart that in her selfish act, she took out a police dog with her.

As an animal lover, I am so sorry to hear about that poor dog. He no doubt took his job very seriously and did a wonderful job supporting his fellow officers.

The fact that Diesel gave his life in the service of others just breaks my heart. Animals hold a special place in my heart and service dogs are selfless in their effort to perform their jobs. My heart goes out to his trainer, I'm sure he/she feels a family member is lost. One more tragic lost of life due to these terrorists.

The military experts who report to Obama state there will be terrorists among the refugees. We already have US citizens who have left the country for training in terrorism.

France had much more leeway with collecting information from the people, and yet, it took an egregious act of terror before they took action. I'm hoping we do not wait for another act of aggression to get real about this situation.

NYC is increasing the level of police presence; however, how do you have teams placed in every club, restaurant, stadium, etc. Given the MO in Paris I wonder if armed police in the streets is enough to protect the people of NYC.
