Actor Alan Arkin Suffers Mini Stroke

Fortunately he is fine. He is 81 yrs. old now.

I've loved Arkin since I saw him in The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter playing a lonely deaf man. I still cry at the end of that film every time I see it. A wonderful actor.

I could only dream of being as cool as Alan Arkin is at 81 y/o. He is one of my very favorites... absolutely loved him in Little Miss Sunshine. Here's hoping he's doing well and is with us for many more years to come!

@AliJoi5I love that entire film, Little Miss Sunshine. Abagail Breslin was so terrific for a girl that young! I heard her interviewed and she said Arkin was the one who made her wear earphones during that scene in the van where he advises Paul Dano's character to the f-word every woman he can. Artkin ddin't want Breslin to hear that conversation. She said that she didn't hear it until the first time she saw the film!

I, too, have loved Alan Arkin since the movie , "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter", my favorite movie. I also liked him as a Judge in a TV court drama series. My prayers are with him and his family (son Adam). May he completely recover.

An all-around phenomenal film! With a perfect blend of drama, humor, and quirk. My heart still melts at that part in the hotel room when Olive tells grandpa she doesn't want to be a loser... because daddy hates losers. I love the way Arkin's character handles that scene. Not overly sentimental, but beautifully done. Get out the hanky!

Yes @scatcat, very touching indeed! I believe Arkin won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for that film. And the little girl (Abigail Breslin) was nominated. You should definitely see the flim if you ever get the chance. Seriously uplifting (and funny!).

Yes, Breslin was nominated and Arkin won that year.

Breslin was fantastic. I heard Arkin interviewed about the film and he said she was so great an actress that he was always surprised when during a break, he'd see her eating a Twinkie Because when acting with her he'd forget she was just a little girl.

My introduction to Alan Arkin was his role as the Russian ship Captain in The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming. He was a young handsome man who had an air of humor about him through all the seriousness. That film is a classic. If you haven't seen it, rent it. As many of you have mentioned, I too loved him in an older role as Grandpa in Little Miss Sunshine, also a classic film. He looks frail, but I think he'll be okay after this set back. He's got a fighting spirit.

I did see the movie. I love movies where the families are 3 inches outside the norm. Like The Royal Tennenbaums or The Slums of Beverly Hills. But that scene you posted was really good.
