The near-simultaneous attacks in Paris that killed at least 128 people were an "act of war" organised by the Islamic State (IS) militant group, French President Francois Hollande says.

He said the attacks, carried out by eight gunmen and suicide bombers, were "organised and planned from outside".

The targets included bars, restaurants, a concert and a high-profile football match. IS claimed the attacks.

Several arrests have been made in Belgium, the justice minister says.

My heart bleeds for the people of Paris. My prayers are with these people. May governments wake up.

It is touching that many hosts have paid tribute to Paris on air and on Facebook. Only the self absorbed did not (too much into selfies, I guess).

I have an 80 year old friend who lives in Paris, we spoke 4 days ago.

You would love her, a real free spirit, stick figure, flaming (colored) short, red hair, very French, can you say outspoken? So funny, I love her.

She is a fire brand, brave, honorable, and willing to put her feet where her words are, she would be the first to storm the barricades.

Unfortunately, this is not a war of honor, nor, do I think it will be.

I am a Francophile. I love France and have visited many, many times. I have beloved French friends. This terrorist attack is heartbreaking. I pray that the freedom-loving countries of the world will unite to fight these monstrous Islamic terrorists.
