I like many of you, own a "Keurig Type" of coffee maker.

I am guilty, I placed my "Regular Coffee Maker", back on the storage self...And yes, it is collecting dust just sitting there.

So, why do we use a Keurig Machine? For me it is really convenient. My husband leaves for work with a fresh cup of coffee and I get up a little later and also have a fresh cup of coffee. Yes, Keurig is very convenient...If I were to bet, I would say this is why you too use one? Is it not? Yes, those little convenient K-Cups...For me it is a "Love / Hate" relationship. You ask me why? Well, this is what I will tell you...

What I do not like about Keurig "Green Mountain"...

Yes...you got it..."K-CUP WASTE"!!! Yes, that thin plastic exterior and the foil top.

Keurig says, "They are very interested in enveronmental waste". However, "Keurig Green Mountain" have done nothing to make their products Green / Bio-Degradable. Nothing!

Keurig Green Mountain company "Monopolize" the "K-CUP Industry". These little K-Cups have become a huge environmental problem, growing by BILLIONS...Yes, BILLIONS!!! To estamate just how many K-Cups are in landfills. Since 2012, "Green Mountain" sold 11 BILLION Plastic K-Cups. That number has more than tripled since then.

Since 2012, Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks along with numerious other companies have and are jumping in on the K-Cup bandwagon. Filling up our landfills one K-CUP at a time.

So, I ask you "Keurig Green Mountain" please tell me what you are doing about this concern / major problem? How are you going to improve our landfill and our environment? What are you doing to improve our "Childrens lives our Grandchildrens lives"? How are you going to clean up our environment from

K-Cup waste?

I know there are other methods available...Why then is "Keurig Green Mountain", not using them?

If "San Francisco Bay Coffee Company" can make and produce a 97% Bio-Degradable K-Cup why can't "Keurig Green Mountain" do the same? Why??? Yes, like I stated yearlier, you Monopolize the Coffee Industry. I would think this would be your number #1 priority.

Yes, I know we can all use the little plastic reuseable K-Cup we can all fill with our own brand of coffee...But really, how many of you are using this method?

I personally, will only brew my coffee using "San Francisco Bay Coffee Company" K-Cups because they are 97% Bio-Degradable.

I purchased two and both clunked out pretty quickly. Never again. I do NOT like the taste of the coffee it makes (terrible!) and I don't like the waste of k-cups in the landfills. I used the my k-cup reusable instead but again, the coffee is just awful. I guess I am kind of a coffee snob. I enjoy a realy good cup of dark roasted joe (no cream, no sugar) and the Keurig could not produce.

Never again. What a piece of (expensive) junk.

I've had one for about 5 years & really not all that impressed. I'd say it's just OK. Once I used up the k-cups that came with the machine but have not used them any more because of the wastefulness. I've preferred using my own freshly-ground coffees in the my k-cup. However, sometimes I do want to make a full pot, so I just ordered a Hamilton Beach dual coffee maker. It has a 12-cup glass carafe & can also brew single servings in cups or travel mugs. Though it can take coffee pods, I will continue using fresh ground coffee.

I enjoy my Keurig for convenience and variety. I do not like weak coffee, and I have found plenty of K-cups to suit me. The newer machines also have a "strong" setting that brews slightly slower. I've been using a Keurig for 6-7 years.

I use SF Bay K-cups primarily because I prefer the taste of their coffee, but as one person who uses one K-cup per day, I'm not overly concerned with the biodegradable issue when I occasionally use other K-cups. I have rarely used "official" K-cups simply because I enjoy the taste of their competitors' coffee (SF BY, Peet's, Coffee Bean, etc.) more.

I have a personal small Keurig as the only one in our household that drinks coffee or tea. It is very convenient and in my opinion the coffee is never bitter like the store bought coffee. My personal taste is for mild coffees. Also my preference is for decaffeinated coffee whenever possible. This works out well for me. One cup in the morning and a sleepy time tea in the evening. My Keurig is a couple years old and in the event that it breaks I would buy another.

I just got as Keurig K450 for my Mom six weeks ago and I think it's a nice little device. In the manual they point out that the k-cups can be recycled by peeling off the foil, rinsing out the grounds, and then placing the clean plastic that remains in your plastic recycling bin. The reality though is the plastic in k-cups is very thin, lightweight, largely inconsequential. I dare say disposable razors take up far more landfill space than k-cups.

How many k-cups would it take to make one water bottle? I'm guessing somewhere between twenty and thirty. If you're going after landfill space wasters then target disposable razors, water bottles and more before you target k-cups. Complaining about their ability to be recycled is kind of a joke. They can be recycled if the user wishes to go to the trouble of peeling off the foil and rinsing them out.

One time during a QVC Keurig TSV, I ended up getting hyped up about it and bought the same model at Macy's much cheaper with it being on sale and coupons in the paper. I'm glad I bought it there because I ended up returning it. I just didn't like it - I want coffee exactly "my" way that I was used to.

Costco has had some great deals on Keurigs so I'd never buy one from QVC anyway. In case it does break or if you just decide you don't like it, it's really easy to return. I've found the same models cheaper there also than on QVC.

But no, no Keurig for me. I'll continue making my own coffee my own way. And..for folks who were posting on my Starbucks Lingering thread, I never - ever - get coffee through the drive-through anywhere. I like to put in my own amount of Splenda and my own skim milk --- my way to my tastes.

Thanks to all for your concern about the environment. As with most matters involving trash and recycling, one person's waste is insignificant but everyone's waste put together is huge. So I appreciate when a person does his or her small part to help the environment and make a better future for our children and grandchildren. And, the problem with pods is that even if they are recyclable (and I don't know that they are), the vast majority of people don't bother.

Bought one on a TSV a few years ago thinking that if we didn't use it I'd send it back. We love our Keurig! We make a large poy for the moring in our pot and then use the Keurig for those times in the afternoonn or evening for decaf and specialty drinks. The hot water option is used for oatmeal, soup etc.
