difference between a locked thread and a thread that has been closed for commenting?

does anyone know the difference between a locked thread and a thread that has been closed for commenting? i see both on the first page today, but have not figured out if there is any different between the two? just curious.....

Good question. I've wondered the same. Maybe a mod will come on an explain the difference, if there really is one. Could be just a choice of words by different mods, with essentially the same results.

I don't know if this is always the case but I've seen threads locked, cleaned up and then re-opened for comments again.

maybe so........perhaps some of the mods have seniority and can lock threads and some only have the power to close them......even though they are both the same.

Hi Everyone, A locked thread and a thread closed for commenting are the same. I could be because one is from the old system and may say locked, the new venue would state Closed for Commenting. Could you send some examples so that we can take a look.

I don't know, seems lately, I read an entire thread, get to the end, and it's closed for comments. I don't know why the same people have to fight every day here. It's not even worth reading and trying to comment on anything anymore.

Hi @sidsmom, Great question! When a thread gets out of control it is moved to the Deleted File and you will not see any posts only the one letting you know why it was moved. When a thread is on the edge and we can see it is not moving in a good direction we may Close it for Commenting so that no more comments can be posted. We do try to "clean it up" and delete confrontational comments. We may miss some, so if you see anything you believe is something that should be deleted please send it to Abuse so that it notifies us and we can take a look at it.

I think these 2 are examples, but apologies if I misunderstood...one is locked, moved and zero responses...the other is locked and 94 responses (I know, Capt Obvious)...what is the difference?

@Anonymous, while we're on the subject of threads closed or locked, if I may, why are posts deleted without a reason & they aren't controversial, argumentative or anything disruptive, just poofed? I asked the moderator that poofed one of mine, as have other's, but we get no response..

Hi @MacDUFF that's a good example. the thread "We all do have our opinions" was pointing fingers at posters in the Community and getting confrontational with little substance. The thread "I hate this time of year" started out with a substantial subject about hunting and became heated with difference of opinions. At times the threads will be cleaned up after they are closed or deleted and returned to the Forum. Hope this helps.

Just a comment. I was surprised to see my Starbucks thread locked today, only because a mod cleaned it up quite a bit last evening and it seemed OK after he did. So I'm mystified as to why it got locked when it seemed to be back on track. Oh well, not my call. I was just surprised. I too was posting a response on it when my post wouldn't post because it was Read Only from then on.
